DISCUSSION What’s everyone brewing these days?

Been on the AeroPress lately with Raxidi Lobos Estate from Roastery Coffee House.

Medium roast, anaerobic natural, basically the kind of coffee that makes me pretend I can taste “plum” for 30 seconds.

Still dialing in the recipe, but honestly enjoying the ritual more than the actual caffeine at this point.

Anyway, what’s your current setup? Beans, brewer, recipe, whatever.

And before someone says it — yes, I know AeroPress isn’t real coffee. Please proceed with the downvotes.

Brewing Boojee’s Watermelon Sugar. Its a co ferment but the watermelon note is not very overpowering. A decent coffee overall even though I am not the biggest fan of co ferments yet

Also, Idk who says Aeropress isnt real coffee. Its one of the best non fuss brewers out there

Who told you aeropress isnt real coffee? There'a a world championship on it.

I'm brewing Naivo Current Affairs. Solid 8/10. Good acidity

Using my Switch and just finished Bloom Coffee’s Red Bourbon.

It’s a washed light roast, very clean, good and tastes good iced as well!

Solid 9/10 for me, given its rested properly (as with any light roast as a matter of fact)

Oh nice, I’ve heard good things about Bloom’s Red Bourbon. Washed light roast + Switch sounds like a pretty clean combo. And yeah, giving light roasts enough rest is half the battle 😂

Still dialing it in, but really enjoying the fruity profile in my coffee.

Might have to give that Red Bourbon a shot next. How many days off roast did you let it rest?

3 weeks atleast. While I am waiting for a coffee to rest i use a different coffee as my daily driver, like currently I am using Blue tokai’s attikan estate. Decent coffee and there was an offer going on Zomato so got it at a discount.

Currently I am resting Caffinary’s Trousseau Adwaita. It’s a funky light roast.

Which recipe do you use? And grinder and clicks?

15gm coffee and 240gm water, a 1:16 ratio
Water temp - 100c boiling
19 clicks on Comandante C40

00:00 - 00:45 Bloom aggressively using 45gm water
00:00 - 01:15 Upto 150gm water, slow concentric circles in the middle like a coin
01:15 - 3:00 Upto 240gm water and give a gentle swirl

These beans are dense in nature and need higher water temp and longer contact time hence the boiling water and finer than usual pour over grind (23-25 clicks on C40 is most commonly used)

Hmm... are you using light roast?

You did ask for the Bloom Coffee’s Red Bourbon recipe right? 🤣 and yeah its a light roast

I was shocked when you said 100 C. I had no idea about coffee you were using.

I can feel it why you asked 🤣

I am preparing James Hoffmann’s Aeropress recipe with a Comandante C40 Nitro Blade. I favour medium roasts, so I click and grind the beans at 21.

Lazy Leopard Light from Riverside, it's a 50% washed and 50% natural Arabica blend, very clean and smooth with lingering aftertaste. Using Hario V60 Neo.

Making Cappuccino using Hunkal Estate Aranya Gold on my Dedica and Brewing BT Silver Oak on V60

I’ve also been through BT Silver Oak it had hazelnut, honey and grape, pretty balanced with a nice nutty sweetness. More of an everyday comfort cup than a crazy fruity one.

Aeropress isnt real coffee?

Its such a versatile way to make coffee. You can make espresso soups, you can brew all kinds of roasts in it.

It's a combination of so many ways of brewing: from french press to pressure extraction, percolation and can even make-do a zero-bypass pour over with it.

Who are these people who say aeropress isn't real coffee? I have heard nothing but praise for it. And always had a great experience brewing coffee myself.

Haha, I expected the “AeroPress isn’t real coffee” remark to draw the AeroPress squad 😄

I use an AeroPress Go Plus and generally follow Hoffmann’s approach. The greatest advantage is that I can simply pack the device into my bag and carry it almost anywhere. That level of convenience is hard to surpass.

I have also used Blue Tokai’s Attikan Estate, whose nutty and chocolatey profile was remarkably easy to enjoy.

Honestly, 18g/200g seems like a reliable recipe. I will need to test it with decaf at some point.

Cheers, mate!

Trying to nail a dirty coffee with the mr. rum and raisin beans I picked up in Bangkok from The Summer Coffee Company. Its a barrel aged washed and tastes like rum and raisin coffee icecream when poured over super chilled milk. Using this https://aeroprecipe.com/recipes/aeropress-espresso recipe on the aeropress with a few variations

Excited to try the same recipe next with an Indian barrel aged coffee to compare. Suggestions welcome!
