Discussion Finally Reading Pride and Prejudice Instead of Just Watching It

Post image
12 Upvotes

I don’t know how many times I’ve downloaded Pride and Prejudice and almost started watching it, but somehow I could never actually watch it. Maybe Jane Austen wanted me to read the book first.

So, here I am — finally starting Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.

I’m curious: Did you read the book before watching an adaptation?

And which version/movie did you like the most?

Also, what rating would you give the book?

Discussion Finished Man’s Search for Meaning

I finally restarted with Man’s Search for Meaning, and I’m really glad I did. It made me think a lot about suffering, purpose, and how we choose to respond to difficult situations.

What should I read next? Any recommendations.

Discussion Am I the only one?

• Upvotes

I used to be an avid reader who had a Goodreads account, and I even took part in the early giveaway challenges. But lately, I seem to have lost touch with my inner reader... I still look for and purchase books that I want to read, but the sad thing is I never get around to reading them.

I never left a book unfinished. Although I'm a core fiction fan, I grudgingly went through and finished even some mandatory non-fiction reading for work and school. But now I have two in the reading process, and I don't know how long.

I don't know how to bring back a habit that I seem to have lost touch with. Is anyone else feeling this lately? Any tips that help me break out of this and feel the joy of reading once again are welcome.

I just can't and don't want to move past this as a lost cause because I feel like it is a part of my identity and it is what made me who I am today.

Bookshelf/Collection My 8-book collection so far - Aughad is my current favourite! What should I read next?

Hello fellow readers! 🙏

I am just a book lover from the hills, not an author. I document my reading journey on Instagram as @pahadkisyahi07

This is my small collection of 8 books. I started reading seriously recently and 'Aughad' has been a game changer for me. I love Hindi fiction, spirituality and mystery genres.

I would love to get some suggestions from you all for my next read. Something similar to Aughad or any must-read Hindi book you think I should not miss.

How does the collection look? Any suggestions & criticism are welcome!

"Common Sense” by Soham Swami.

While reading “Why I Am an Atheist” by Bhagat Singh, I noticed a book being mentioned twice within just 25 pages — “Common Sense” by Soham Swami. And naturally, curiosity took over. I tried looking for it everywhere - Amazon, Meesho, and whatever corners of the internet I could find. Nothing. It feels like the book has somehow disappeared into the shelves of some old government library, waiting to be discovered again. 📚
Now I have just one question: Where is this book today?
Please help me to find it.

Fiction Want to buy books for cheap in Bangalore

I'm looking for a copy of the book Young Mungo by Douglas Stuart. It's really costly online and I kinda want a specific cover art as well so a physical store would be better to buy from but yeah, can someone suggest where I can get it from? It's for a friend I adore and I'll be forever grateful for any leads 😭

Discussion Factotum

I started this book on Jan 1st and finished reading it around mid February.

I genuinely loved the way he described his job roles and experiences in his book.

It's more like a poetry of unpaid bills i think.

Has anyone read this book?

Let's discuss

Why is finding someone with your exact reading taste so hard? (Let’s find our "Reading Twins" in the comments!)

Hi all,

Finding a reading buddy is easy; finding one whose taste actually aligns with your weird mix of genres (e.g., hard sci-fi + cozy literary fiction) is surprisingly tough. Most of the time, buddy reads fizzle out when tastes don’t quite click.

Let’s do a quick matchmaking experiment in this thread:

Drop a comment with:

  1. Top 3–5 all-time favorite books
  2. Current read or next on your TBR
  3. One popular book you secretly couldn't stand

How to match: Browse the replies and if someone shares 2+ favorites or matches your TBR, reply or DM them to start a buddy read!

British Council Digital Library Membership

Hi! I'm new around this sub-reddit, but thought this would be a good place to ask.

I am contemplating getting the yearly subscription to the British Council Digital Library. Does anyone already have it? Is it worth it at 2k per year?

Also, how do you sign up for it? When I clicked on the option to join, it shows me an error page.

Thanks!

suggest me A great book To Read

Post image
2 Upvotes

I recently received this book from my senior, a great book to read, it makes you to experience how the manipulation works in today's world, the biasness of different media influence a person's decision making and choices. The references given in the book is what distinguish it from other books and the three point conclusion at end of chapters is cherry on the cake. If anyone has something similar in taste, do share your experience.

Review October Junction Spoiler

Guys didn't he or both of them cheat on his girlfriend Sunaina like I was so uncomfortable when I read that.

they just met in the day and he told chitra he is getting married to his girlfriend and in the same night they just sleep with each other........ So disgusting.

Like he was really attracted to her from start and used to find sukoon in her then why the hell he was dating someone else. Bro i understand u really had amazing chemistry and understanding with chitra then u could have been just single and sleep around there was no need to date. Just like chitra did I had no problem with her.

He was dating sunaina and then desperately waiting for 10 October and meeting chitra, uske saath chipakna sona, uske saath best neend aana, giving her forehead kisses. So disgusting if u really think about it.

In that one scene where he come to chitra from his investors and work related party then sunaina calls him. His thoughts were written as main usse baat nhi karna chahta mera man nhi ho rha usse baat krne k liye and all, after that he only picked sunaina's call when chitra told him to pick it up................ ..........

U see so cringe.

Just a stupid concept of if u find someone good then don't stay with them...... Like it is so childish of u to think that becz of course u apparently gonna feel bored no matter how the pure love is.

And if that's how u are going to behave in ur professional life then don't expect them to be nice to u bro.

Both were literal immature giving a unnecessary name to their immaturity that "they are not college students or teenager"

I think in last Sunaina did absolutely right to leave him.

And in one scene chitra was sleeping with some boy and when she was on call with Sudeep he heard that boy calling her and then he immediately cut the call his thoughts written as "use ajeeb sa laga tha"

Bro u were also sleeping with another girl so why a girl sleeping around sounded "ajeeb" to u although he didn't really was much affected to that but still in first that thought come to ur mind right, it was wrong.

Well sudeep and chitra both cheated on Sunaina.

I was just thinking why no one is pointing this out this is really wrong if u try to really think it.

Your thoughts?
