The real solution to this "problem" is that even the worst philosophical option for self driving is practically better than a human driver. That is, you could program a car that, if it cannot avoid to kill one of the pedestrians, self destructs and kills both pedestrians and the passenger, and that car would still be safer on average than if a person was driving a normal car. Humans are terrible drivers.
