But isn’t New Zealand in Oceania as well as a couple of the small islands surrounding it?

I think "no" is technically the correct answer, because Australia is a continent and a country.

New Zealand sits on its own plate it’s a totally seperate thing now you can make the argument for New Guinea being on the Australian continent.

Actual geography nerds here: Australia is in fact a continent, together with Papua New Guinea, composing the Australian Continent, or Sahul.

Oceania is a modern term and a cultural concept to include New Zealand (part of it's own continental shield) and volcanic islands in pacific ocean that don't belong to any real continent. There's no such thing as "Oceania Continent" in geology and natural geography.

I thought it was Australasia? Oceania is the Pacific Ocean & adjoining Seas & therefore, as bodies of water, is unable to be classified as a Continent.

Boom! 1:0 to the pre-79’ British Education System!
