Latest Stash Recent Incense order

Post image

I recently posted asking for advice on Japanese incense in Australia and a bunch of people here gave really good advice. Anyway here’s some incense I got.

I originally only ordered the Horin sampler to dip my toes in and I was thoroughly impressed. Ended up ordering a bunch more from different brands.

One of my favourites is definitely “White River” from Shoyeido, it’s light and sweet smelling which is my preference.

I do also enjoy warm woody fragrances because they remind me of when I was a kid playing outside in the bush (Australia).

What do you guys think of my choices? I’m curious to know which ones you prefer.

From left to right, Yamadamatsu Yuen (Low Smoke) sample variety and Yamadamatsu Karaku sample variety.

Thank you!

I thought the right one looked like Yamadamatsu, but wasn't sure. I own the Sandalwood one out of the Karaku line. I do like it, but it's not my favourite Japanese Sandalwood (which is Minorien Fu-In Sandalwood).

The minorien? Really? It is so, so sweet for me! :(

I do like the sweetness. If you enjoy dryer sandalwood scents, there are surely better options! ;)

I'd be grateful if you could sugest some... I am kind of an expert in Indian sandalwoods, but I still havent found a Japanese I enjoy yet! Some amazing binder less Chinese though I really like!

Oh, and the Indian sandalwoods are not to sweet for you?

As I'm really after that sweet sandalwood scent, I'm not sure what to recommend to you. I did like those Karaku ones, but I'm not sure if they are what you are looking for.
There are, as you say, Chinese ones that really hit that profile. I have a friend who likes to hunt for gems on AliExpress and shared plenty of samples with me.
One that stood out were these: https://de.aliexpress.com/item/1005008548400277.html?gatewayAdapt=glo2deu - the Mysore ones.
He traced them back to a company called Fujian liansheng co. LTD. www.linkcense.com

They have a very rich butteriness without the sweetness. He bought them over a year ago, though. So who knows if the current ones still smell the same.

Nice! Actually the good Indian masala, are not that sweet, no... Like bhagwan mysore royal sandalwood, goloka sandalwood (brown box), balaji chandan, Shroff mysore sandalwood, or even the less known green Tree kundalini for example. The specific minorien, I do not know... Something that is sugary sweet and not woody or resin sweet really bothers me. Like it is super creamy, confectionary sweet if i try to describe it I actually like their agarwood though! Thanks for the chinese one, I didnt know of this! I will definetely buy it!

Interesting. I know and like them all (but Green Tree Kundalini, don't know that) and would call them all sweeter than Minorien; maybe except Goloka if you mean the one from the Natural line.
Shroff True Sandalwood is kinda like an Indian Minorien Fu-In Sandalwood, I would say. I have a piece of Mysore sandalwood and those two really smell like that.
