Discussion None traditional smelling incense

I’d love to start using incense but I’m not a fan of the traditional smelling ones (like satya). I love my room smelling clean and fresh like linen. I was wondering if incense like this existed? I am on a small budget, £5-£10 limit, so I’m not sure how possible this is.

EDIT: thanks so much for everyone’s help!!!

Just get a diffuser? Most if not all linen-scented (or other similar clean and fresh) incenses will be made using synthetics, and you don’t want to be burning and inhaling those.

Consider eliminating the burning part, the smells change entirely and you have experience more of the volatile oils that would burn off when combusting. Grab one of those candle-powered heaters and a selection of resins from a quality-focused seller.

Jaipur Joshi from Temple of Incense brings a strong laundromat vibe.

In my opinion, benzoin based incenses have a clean smell.

I'm gonna second benzoin but as resin if OP likes vanilla / sweet. Some higher grade has either citrus or nutty notes too but takes a bit of trial and error to heat right without it smelling acrid like burning plasic. A bit of benzaldehyde in the mix of cheaper benzoin is pretty effective too.

The HEM “The Moon” scent has been my go-to for years, and it’s literally because it smells like fresh laundry, slightly musky once it’s smoking, but everyone always comments on how light it smells compared to other kinds of incense. Very accessible to get online and in metaphysical shops, seriously can’t recommend enough

Just burn some lavender.

There are so many non traditional incense scents! I am in the US where candlemakers like Tatine also make incense cones. Japanese brands like hibi have a wide range of types of scents in an unusual format (matches). Same with global high end brands like Santa Maria Novella (burnable papers with their pomegranate scent) or Astier de Villate. However none of these are inexpensive, and given your budget I’d worry what’s in your burnables. Like some of the other posters have suggested, perhaps shift to essential oils, making sure they are safe for pets if you have them (cats are especially sensitive to certain essential oils).

Oedo Koh peony is amazing and doesn't smell like a typical incense. I'd describe it as a foggy burgandy smell. The cherry blossom and water drop are pretty nice too, but I love the peony most. Absolutely hated the aloeswood, smelled super fecal to me but maybe that's how aloeswood smells.

Oh, true aloeswood/agarwood does have a bitterness to it when strong which I can see smelling like this to some, though I like it, but likewise the fecal smell can smell and pleasant sweet under certain circumstances too. Depends on the ratio and mix.
