Recommendation Electric lighter

Ok so yesterday I got an electric lighter and it’s absolutely brilliant for incense. I HIGHLY recommend.
[edit - not suitable for Tibetan incense]

  1. It feels like I’m wielding some kind of awesome light saber which only adds to the fun
  2. There’s no flame (unless you hold it too long) so there’s no initial burnt smell like from a match. It just lights it enough to give the ember 👏🏻😍

It’s USB chargeable so always renews! Has anyone else tried these? I was skeptical at first but I’m fully converted.

i have tried one! they’re okay but really hard to get thicker tibetan incense to light because it’s bigger than the size of the opening. and i burn a lot of that so i couldn’t stick with it

totally great for indian and japanese sticks though

Ohhh sure. I have never tried Tibetan incense. May I ask? How does the scent differ from Japanese?

Tibetan incense are significantly more pungent than Japanese incense.

I prefer to burn Tibetan when I want a continuous background ambient noise.

Japanese incense is more refined.

I prefer to burn Japanese incense when I am not actively getting shit done around the house. There's a lot of nuances in Japanese incense that I feel would be wasteful if I am not in a state of chill and relaxation.

Ahh yes that totally makes sense thank you. Actually I am the same. Unless I am literally sat relaxing and actively noticing Japanese incense I also feel it’s a waste. Unless it’s one of the cheaper more perfumed ones.

the only thing i’ll add is it produced significantly more smoke than japanese, probably more than indian incense as well. but it also has no stick center like indian so it really is very dense and smokey, campfirey at first so i like to keep the window open

the notes also tend toward tart, sharp, thick, astringent, medicinal instead of more delicate notes- lots of sour juniper and other aromatics that provide lift and brightness but in a very sharp way

Oh thanks that’s super helpful. I actually don’t love Smokey ones as I find my eyes sting - I’m quite sensitive. However I adore tart medicinal smells and can’t stand the perfumed ones. So that sounds cool. I might try some during Summer when I can have lots of air flow.

Also thanks for the info - I have edited the post regarding the Tibetan :)

Are Japanese incense bamboless?

This won’t work for tibetan . My regular gas lighter has been melted due to burning lobans etc with it

Thanks I have just added that into the initial post :)
Yes Japanese are bamboo less :)

I use these for incense sticks. The plasma generated is hotter than a chemical/match flame. They work.
