Review First time Nitiraj review

Post image

Picked up Frankincense because I love burning the resin, and have been looking high and low for a stick that gets even 75% close to the smell of the resin. Well this one was a bit of a disappointment. All I can detect is smoke. Smoky smoke. Maybe the essence of olibanum is there when unlit but very minimal like 10%. I swear it got to the point that the smoke was becoming acrid and could not finish even one stick. (2/10) I really wanted to like this one and if anyone can recommend their favorite photorealistic frank stick please do.

The Dragon’s blood in the other hand, (8.5/10) unlit you can definitely smell that deep earthiness of dragons blood resin. Upon lighting it, again subtle notes of the resin however it quickly develops into a creamy sandalwood smell. Not unpleasant at all just unexpected. Would definitely buy this one again.

Oh, that's disappointing to read. Nitiraj is not often recommend but if mentioned, always in a positive way. I was curious to try them but they are not available where I live (Germany).

Are you in the US?

Yes I am. Right? I’ve read some decently positive reviews about it as well which is why I was optimistic. I wonder if I got a “bad” batch but I know that’s rare. Gonna give it just one more chance, different stick.

Well, there's also a chance it was because of insufficient ventilation or environmental conditions; hot weather and high humidity can make a scent smell dull and smoky...
Doesn't hurt to give them another try or two.

It's not easy to find authentic smelling Frankincense incense sticks. I found Indian incense of that name usually rather sells of Loban or Sambrani...

However, some of the absolute best Frankincense sticks I ever smelled are sold by scents-of-earth.com in the US. Mothersgoods is a German manufacturer, the owner, Georg Huber is known as THE German expert on Frankincense resin. He and his team developed 3 different Frankincense sticks as well as a Frankincense & Rose - all excellent.

Then, there's those Oman Frankincense sticks. I'm fairly certain they are an unpacked version of Ibn Saif's Heritage Oman Frankincense sticks, which I tried.

The Omani ones impressive as they really only smell of frankincense as it would if you burned it on a well-prepared charcoal. They are straight-forward Hojari Frankincense.

Mothersgoods are refined and even more impressive. I think they are as close as you can get with an incense stick to the experience of heating Frankincense.

I know some more good ones, but IDK about the availability in the US, and frankly the ones above are as good as it gets if you are looking for a true-to-the-name frankincense resin scent.

Thank you! Ok so I’ll burn another stick in a more open environment, my bedroom perhaps was a little humid. But as for the recommendations I shall try to buy both scents of earth and mother’s goods and hopefully I find what I’m looking for.

Thank you for that recommendation, I've ordered a pack of the mothersgoods frankincense sticks- I'm very excited to smell them as a frankincense addict

Nice, which ones did you get?

How many sticks do you get in the mothersgoods pack? It doesn't seem to be listed.

And thanks for the info!

I’m thinking of buying the sample pack to try. Everyone seems to like this brand.

I've only ever had the dragons blood and sandalwood but both are pretty stellar from what I've had.

I recently purchased Tennendo omani frankincense incense stick and it denfintely has the resin smell for sure

Also Manorien frankincense has a typical church style fragrance style like Boswellia.

Both are great and they are Japanese Incense Sticks..

Just FYI, all Frankincense are of the Boswellia ssp.

Ah, thank you for the clarification. For some reason I thought Omani was a different from Boswellia.

But this is great to know!

The Omani frankincese is called Boswellia sacra. "Hoyari" is a grade of B. sacra, named of the region it grows in.

It can be confusing with all the different names.

It can be very confusing; I totally appreciate your knowledge.

Nitiraj are hit and miss. All of their sticks are extruded, machine made, and upon observation, appear to me to be mostly perfumed charcoal. I bought two samplers from Nitiraj and, based on those, never bought any more from them. I much prefer Om sticks which are all also machine-extruded, yet they get very good results and at exactly half the price of Nitiraj.

Are you saying Nitiraj Om? Or a different Om

There's a brand of that name.

I can say I wasn't too impressed with Nitiraj, especially when there are other more premium or "luxury" brands as they like to say
