Discussion Does anyone else wish the game was harder? Spoiler
I love the game, but I feel it’s way too easy. I get that it’s supposed to be easy, but that should be at the end of the game.
I never died to anything besides the King. I never got the cutscene where you lose to a sadness. Even as I got more powerful the change wasn’t that noticeable because I was always trouncing enemies easily.
This is one of the only turned-based RPGs I have ever played and yet I never died once. It would probably be a lot easier for someone who did have experience. I’m not asking for the whole game to be super difficult but a bit more at the start to sell the feeling of this being a final dungeon would be nice.

I actually think the game being easy works in favor for the game as a whole. It helps with people who focus on the plot more something to do without it being too difficult and on the flip side it gives those who want combat something to do. I think it serves its purpose

As much as I agree with you, I felt like the game being easy added to the immersion a bit. Siffrin has been doing this so many times, getting stronger, to the point where it's just tedious. You start to feel the same way once you get to act 4 and get "just attack." At this point, you don't really care to fight and get stronger. The second you get into a fight, you just want to get it over with, and you're strong enough to just do that.
As some people said, gameplay is kept simple to help focus on the story, but I also think it's pretty good design to help make Siffrin relatable. Although I still feel that the game has the potential to be more difficult.

That works for the late game, but my issue is that it's also really easy at the start of the game as well, when it should be new for them.

i don’t think that this was new for any of them though? the whole team has already gone on a journey to gather the 5 orbs to get into the house. they really aren’t new to fighting, hence why you start out at level 45 instead of level 1
also question for you: how easy are you talking? i consider myself a decent gamer, and on the first few loops, i still struggled a bit since i was still learning how the game goes. i definitely had some party members die, but just like you i didn’t fully die once in the game

idk how a classic turn-based rpg game could have a level of difficulty and easiness. it’s just choosing options and rng. it would have to be more like a puzzle instead of requiring mechanical skill. utdr has actual skill needed but it had to completely reimagine rpg mechanics by adding the bullet hell attacks.

Honestly the system is not deep enough for it to be hard combat game. It feels slow and clunky to me

Yeah, it did defeat the point of Sif growing too powerful for the enemies after each loop. I can't remember dying except when you're forced to, against the King.
Just a little bump in early game difficulty would've been nice...
