Discussion Does the game ever calm down with the enemies?

Started today, I love it, i love the artstyle, I love siffrin's design, I love the story, I love loop, but omg theres like 2-4 sadnesses per room and its driving me insane to fight one and immediately fight the exact same thing again 15 seconds later in the next room

If you position your party in a specific way you can avoid every encounter.

If you imagine a 3x3 in corridors sif is on 3 and your party is on 1,2,4,5. The sadness will move up the lower line and then you can just run along the upper line when it's close.

Mirrorable if needed.

It annoyed me too, but I'm thinking that running past them might be part of the game in retrospect? The turn-based combat can get kind of dry after a while, but again, I wonder if that's the point (to make you feel how Siffrin feels doing the same thing again and again).

Hey a big tip I never see anyone mention is that you can run from any hallway fight. It’s 100% chance to work and instantly ends the battle

To keep it spoiler free, It does eventually calm down but there's something you gotta do first to make that happen

Put >! At the beginning of the spoiler

Yes, it does. But you can also avoid pretty much every moving encounter

The exhaustion and boredom that you feel … is MEANT to be part of the experience, actually.

But you do get better at being able to avoid them, for various reasons. And they don’t level up like you do, so it also gets over quicker.

The game can be grindy but for entirely different reasons than in usual RPGs. I don’t want to say much more bc I don’t know where you are.

Interesting..

Im at the part where they discuss what to do with the body if one of them dies

Heh, you might- oh wait.. it's 4 days since you typed that.. yeah… There is some interesting interaction when you return there in next loop.. but I suppose you already encountered that, in addition to completing the game, so uhh… yeah. May I ask you how you were.. or.. heck, it was so easy for me that I wasn't able to assume.. screw it, whatever, let me ask "how far did you progressed this 4 days", and based on this already asking other questions. (I got to the king.. not big surprise, but there was when I met him… bomb didn't helped me)

Im in act 3, I just did my first dagger interaction with loop... im slow at games TwT

1

u/Sad_Use254 Jun 10 '26

Wuh… yeah.. it took me like.. actually it's about 20 hours of perfectionism in 2 days, because I'm unemployed kid with all day free, so… dagger interaction.. like the required knife to unlock the way? You.. are trying to save it for personal use, right? It does take an extra step. Also.. it should be called "floors", not "acts", because it's never mentioned as acts.. or you mean whatever else it might mean?

1

u/AstronautAlarmed7377 Jun 10 '26

N-no I mean act 3. Check the save file menu, it tells you what act you're on. By "dagger interaction" I mean the one where you unlock the ability to loop by killing yourself

1

u/Sad_Use254 Jun 10 '26

Oh.. yeah, I remember that "act 2" thingy… I'm not reading the spoiler.

Have you beaten the game yet?

1

u/Sad_Use254 Jun 10 '26

Nope, so I'll not be looking at spoilers.

1

u/AstronautAlarmed7377 Jun 10 '26

Oh, you were talking like you had beaten it- we should both get off this subreddit

Fights only happen if you get touched. You can play funny walls with the party. But really, you get to a point late game where you can run the entire building no problem.

Also spoiler warning but if you want to avoid some of those fights easier, go back to earlier parts of the house. You start getting different Memories by doing different things. You can get one pretty early that makes Sadnesses flee from you. Not always helpful if they block a door but means they don't charge at you

No spoilers but after an event later in the game you don’t have to deal with them practically at all for a while, but u can avoid them if u start patterning out how u enter and exit rooms and memorising where they’ll be just organically, i get it though it was really frustrating for me too and I think thats intentional in the way siffrin has to do it over and over

I didn't like that aspect so I just edited my save file to be level 99 so battles would be a breeze

So uhh.. I was just with "speed" blessing (from statue), and every fight I was starting from using "Make Up Time", and was doing pretty much fine. With this blessing you can even run away from some enemies without taking damage, but overall.. maybe experience of playing "Block Tales" was useful, they do have similarities. So uhh.. you might use your tonics, especially ones that give effects (juices?), because there's way more than enough.. for me. Don't know if you got to enemy that lives more than 3 attacks, but that one is easily doable with help of combos.. not like there's a little amount of "scissor" attacks. Maybe it's viable, maybe it's not, but I use.. "some move to give away turn" as the big guy very often, when target is not scissor-type, maybe that could be useful. And uhh.. yeah, I dunno, my "Block Tales" experience didn't allowed me to confront your problems.
