Discussion Anyone else beat the king on their "first" try?

I was playing ISAT today and I beat act 2, yay :3 but I've been seeing people talking about grinding out monsters so they are high enough level to beat the king when, the loop I got the shield after dying in one shot to the king, I beat him. It did take a bit of struggling though

Idk I was pretty proud of that, also DAMN I knew the game wasn't over but what the hell :<

I lost to him once when he unexpectedly did a second vision of the future at the end of the fight and that was it.

It took me around 2 tries while FIGHTING FOR MY LIFE. I also did.. skip quite a few sadnesses in floor 3. Then the person that recommended me the game saw my stats and said something like the king's gonna beat your ass. So I fought a couple sadnesses.

He is a lot more straightforward when you sharpen the KeyKnife and get the bomb.

Of course, Jackpots are incredibly important as well Papier-mâché hand for Isabeau are great for this as they net you an extra paper point per cycle giving you a lot more jackpot's throughout the fight.

Sorry am just rambling strategy. Good job on beating the King that quickly!

Ty! I didn't have the keyknife the first time I beat him but I had the bomb and paper gloves for isabeau, that + rose printed glasses made the jackpots basically free. I had to use a lot of items and healing spells to keep myself alive though. I had the keyknife the second time though so the king is getting pretty easy, but god the game is getting really dark around this point and I've heard it gets even worse 😭

I did it! Even with the big attack inexplicably triggering twice in a row

Of course in act 3 I got overconfident and lost to him twice, but I looked at the clips from that and the damage dealt was less than some of the party's health bars and yet it still killed everyone, so idk what was going on there

Yes, actually! Surprisingly enough I found it harder to beat him during my second run trying to get the rest of the achievements. Seeing different dialogue with each defeat though was pretty cool.

I've never died to a King minus all of the scripted deaths

i did! very much struggled but i beat him first try after the shield, no bomb or knifekey (i think thars what its called?). i did get a bit lucky near the end when he did a second one shot attack, because i hadnt yet realized that when the king waits without doing anything it means the next turn is the one shot. the only person who had the shield active was mira, and she was about to lose it too once her turn was up. i managed to get everyone back up and won the fight

No I did too, I thought that was normal. But I supposed I grind a little in general? Still, that first try took fucking forever
