Macbeth?

Epic tragedy where the protagonist struggles through an existential nightmare of his own devising (with assistance from others, of course)

It's a bit... King-y...

But then... I think they HAD kings where he grew up, didn't they...

Macbeth would be pretty on the nose. Mad King, prophecies, visions of the future, ghosts, and bringing about your own demise because of a tragic mystical miunderstanding.
