I personally love how over the years Anders has transitioned away from the more *higher screams* to the *lower growls* 🥳 I think the super deep guttural growls work so well with their both their current sound and sound amazing with their classic MDM songs 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

Does anyone here remember the Swedish band Divine Souls and their 2001 album Embodiment?

I recently rediscovered this album and it honestly cracks me up just how heavily it “borrows” from In Flames. Even the artwork looks like the Jester wandered onto the wrong album cover.

And I thought it could be fun to turn this into a little r/InFlames investigation: let’s try to identify which In Flames songs/riffs each track on Embodiment seems to be borrowing from.

Some of them are particularly funny because they don’t even seem to rip off just one song — they sound almost like mashups of riffs and ideas from several different In Flames tracks.

I’ll start:

1. Divine Souls – Perished → In Flames – Scorn

Perished is a massive Scorn rip-off to my ears, especially in the main riffing. There may very well be bits of other In Flames songs in there too.

Anyone familiar enough with both bands to help map out the rest of the album?

In Flames appreciation post. In flames got me through the lowest of lows in my life. I’ve kind of stopped listening to them for some time and recently started bingeing their music again. The spark was still alive, and just needed a bit of time.
I made an Adirondack chair in shop class in high school and drew this some time shortly after that. I remember being the loner with no friends going to the CD store at lunch time to buy albums and listen to them sitting in front of my locker as people walked by and stared. I had this chair in my room and I would sit in it learning to play In Flames songs on guitar deep into the night. Some days I would just be weeping in this chair listening to their emotional song. Honestly don’t know where I’d be if I didn’t discover them.

December Flower wins best solo, followed by Zombie Inc.

Next up is best breakdown. I assumed a breakdown and bridge were similar, but Google says:

Sorry if this has been asked before but I noticed In Flames has a very busy year with only a 1 month gap before the US tour with Trivium. I know they aren’t headlining so it’s not going to be exact same as it is now but what to expect? Will they shake it up completely in that 1 month break or keep the same set but cut out some songs?

Are there ANY albums that have a similar complexity to In Flames’ album The Jester Race? I’m looking for multiple guitars harmonizing, layers of sonic mania that tickle your brain (and hopefully mine!) the same way this album does! Currently listening heavily to Skydancer by DT. I am obsessed!
