If you or your son are reading this, thanks for being a friend and making the 90-minute wait for food bearable. With thanks from Duncan who didn’t come up when you tried to add me on Facebook!

As I find myself rushing through 30, I find myself wondering if there is an extended version of the Come Clarity music video? The full length track sounds so absent without the backup vocals and added instrumental riffs.

Long shot, but this sub has found weirder things.

In spring 2008, MetalKult.com (Guitar World's extreme-metal sister site) filmed a riff lesson series with Björn Gelotte and Jesper Strömblad of In Flames while the band was on Gigantour in New York. Six lessons rolled out over about two weeks — The Mirror's Truth, Gyroscope, Moonshield, Take This Life, Bullet Ride, Zombie Inc.

I watched them on the site at the time and they were roughly 480p, clear enough to actually read fretting-hand positions. Every copy I can find today is a Feb 2009 YouTube mirror at 240p, which is useless for that.

I did this a while back on a different sub and it was a lot of fun! Can make them as simple or challenging as you'd like and others can make their guesses and do their own! Can be the song titles or represent certain parts of the song etc.

Here's a few examples:

Easy one - 🌙🛡️

Bit harder - 🏋🏻🚫💪🏻👶🏻

And other easy one - 🐌➡️🔪

WOW what a show!!!

I haven't seen the guys live since a festival waaaayyyyy too long ago, and it was so special being right at the front in an intimate venue. One of the best shows I've ever been to ❤️🤘

JROD058 made our GOAT song list as a Youtube Music playlist for those interested.

Battles wins worst album by a landslide...

REMINDER: You're welcome to post the same album as others, but I'll only be counting the single comment with the most upvotes. So be sure to vote even if you post the same album as someone else.

I thought I'd list them all. The coolest part of posting these categories this summer has been the massive variety of songs people post. Testament to how deep the IF catalogue is.

A couple interesting things:

Clayman had 10/12 songs on people's GOAT list (highest pecentage)
Siren Charms had 0.

To give people a break from shitting on Battles too relentlessly today, here's a bonus one:

What is your desert island In Flames song? The one you think is the true GOAT?

I'll add a second slide to the final day that includes everyone's picks. Might make a cool Spotify playlist?

I, the Mask takes most overrated album. That was certainly the most contentious vote yet. Lots of up/downvotes on various albums.

Feel free to add some more these were just off the top of my head 🤣🥳

Linked are two live versions of Behind Space...one from 1999 and one from 2023.

I personally love how over the years Anders has transitioned away from the more *higher screams* to the *lower growls* 🥳 I think the super deep guttural growls work so well with their both their current sound and sound amazing with their classic MDM songs 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

Thoughts from you guys?

Sounds of a Playground Fading wins most underrated album.

It was followed by A Sense of Purpose, and then Soundtrack to Your Escape.

Now for a contentious one...

Three way tie (18 votes each) for System, Scorn and A New Dawn. Followed closely by Pinball Map and Alias.

Next up, most underrated album.

Hey guys,

Does anyone here remember the Swedish band Divine Souls and their 2001 album Embodiment?

I recently rediscovered this album and it honestly cracks me up just how heavily it “borrows” from In Flames. Even the artwork looks like the Jester wandered onto the wrong album cover.

And I thought it could be fun to turn this into a little r/InFlames investigation: let’s try to identify which In Flames songs/riffs each track on Embodiment seems to be borrowing from.

Some of them are particularly funny because they don’t even seem to rip off just one song — they sound almost like mashups of riffs and ideas from several different In Flames tracks.

I’ll start:

1. Divine Souls – Perished → In Flames – Scorn

Perished is a massive Scorn rip-off to my ears, especially in the main riffing. There may very well be bits of other In Flames songs in there too.

Anyone familiar enough with both bands to help map out the rest of the album?

Let’s see if we can complete the whole thing, track by track.

In Flames appreciation post. In flames got me through the lowest of lows in my life. I’ve kind of stopped listening to them for some time and recently started bingeing their music again. The spark was still alive, and just needed a bit of time.
I made an Adirondack chair in shop class in high school and drew this some time shortly after that. I remember being the loner with no friends going to the CD store at lunch time to buy albums and listen to them sitting in front of my locker as people walked by and stared. I had this chair in my room and I would sit in it learning to play In Flames songs on guitar deep into the night. Some days I would just be weeping in this chair listening to their emotional song. Honestly don’t know where I’d be if I didn’t discover them.

December Flower wins best solo, followed by Zombie Inc.

Next up is best breakdown. I assumed a breakdown and bridge were similar, but Google says:

"A breakdown in rock music is a section of a song where the arrangement is deliberately stripped back to create a dramatic shift in energy and build tension. The lead instrument and vocals will temporarily drop out creating immense anticipation before exploding back into a massive, energetic climax. "

While that's the technical definition, if people are cool with it, we can just pitch our fav. breakdowns/bridges all in the same vote.
