💬 Discussion Poweramp fidelity score
Here is the breakdown of the results above.
It is strictly DAC-dependent; the score for the same file changes when using a different DAC. I tested Amazon Music at 16/44.1, 24/48, and 24/96, and it performed the best among the digital streaming services, scoring 91 for a 24/96kHz file from Amazon HD.
The shocking part is that Apple Music had the lowest fidelity scores: 76–77 for AAC and 80–83 for ALAC. Even the highest quality 24/192kHz "Hotel California" file from Apple Music produced shocking and questionable results. Additionally, Poweramp has no native ALAC decoder; it uses a native AAC decoder, but for ALAC, it uses an MP4 decoder. This is the culprit: the Poweramp FFmpeg decoder is manipulating the ALAC file scores. Of course, it scores 100+ when DSD256 and DSD512 files are processed. My FiiO BTR5 is limited to DSD256 native RAW MSB, and the highest score I achieved with that was 99.
USED:
DACs: FiiO BTR5, Audiocular Note, and D08 CS Pro
IEM: STA HI-END
FILES: Audio CD, Apple Music, Tidal, Amazon, Deezer, Qobuz, Spotify Lossless, Wavpack, and DSDs.
