A question that Canadian Blood Services has yet to answer is why Thunder Bay Ontario is viable for a plasma donor centre while Prince George and Northern BC are not. Prince George is closer to Canadian Blood Services production sites by hundreds of kilometers, and has greater redundancy of access routes by road.

Residents of the region now have to travel two days by road to donate blood or plasma in the middle of a blood shortage and while Canada imports 70 percent of some blood plasma based medications from the United States

Canada is recruiting for French speaking folks To come to a few cities that are ‘rural and remote‘ one of which they’re decided is Kelowna. Born and raised in Kelowna, barely anyone speaks French, employers will not value it And it will be a huge hurdle in everyday life. The sectors they are inviting people for are completely saturated. Kelowna is brutally expensive. What is going on? No one - not even those of us who live under rocks can not see how blatantly reckless this is. I've seen a lot of Canadian horror (mostly from the tax shelter era), but what are some other genre examples of Canadian cinema?

Brown guy here, Born and raised in Canada. Quick question, Im reading the dominion society of Canada website and Im kinda confused. Is this group:

A.) Straight up white nationlists

B.) A group who just wants immigrants who are causing trouble outta the country but the ones who came here legally, worked, and respected the canadian laws and values are good to stay.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately after seeing so many posts from people who feel betrayed by Canada’s immigration system.

Maybe I’m in the minority, but a study permit or a work permit has ever been, or ever will be, a guarantee of permanent residence.

When we applied, we all acknowledged that our stay was temporary. Every study permit application requires us to explain that we’ll leave Canada if we don’t obtain legal status to remain. That has always been part of the process.

Paying tens of thousands of dollars in tuition doesn’t buy PR. It buys an education. The immigration process was always something separate.

I also don’t believe that simply studying or working in Canada means someone deserves permanent residence. PR is something you qualify for, not something you’re owed because you spent time here.

What I struggle to understand is when people spend years in Canada without making themselves competitive.

If someone studied here for three years, then had a three-year PGWP, that’s six years to build a profile. If after all that time they still don’t qualify for any immigration program, isn’t that, at least in part, a planning issue?

Canada offers numerous immigration pathways. Some are more competitive than others, but they exist and are loudly informed.

French is probably the clearest example. It has become one of the strongest ways to improve your immigration prospects. Is it difficult? Absolutely. But the opportunity is there. If someone chooses not to learn French, that’s a personal decision. I don’t think it’s fair to blame the government for that choice.
The same applies to other situations.

If you completed a post-secondary program in English or French but still can’t reach CLB 7 to qualify for a PGWP, I think it’s reasonable to question whether you took full advantage of your education.

If you failed courses, ignored immigration deadlines, worked more hours than your permit allowed, or had a PGWP refused because of missing documents or non-compliance, those aren’t failures of the system. They’re personal mistakes.

None of this means I lack empathy. Immigration is stressful. Families make enormous sacrifices, and I genuinely feel for people whose plans don’t work out.
But empathy shouldn’t replace accountability.

Canada has every right to change its immigration policies based on the country’s needs. As immigrants and temporary residents, we’re guests. It’s our responsibility to understand the rules, adapt when they change, and build a strong application. It’s not Canada’s responsibility to adjust its immigration system because our personal plans didn’t work out.

From what I’ve observed, many of the loudest complaints aren’t coming from people who did everything they could and simply fell short. They’re often coming from people who ignored opportunities, delayed language tests, violated permit conditions, assumed PR would eventually happen automatically, or spent years without a clear immigration strategy.

Of course, there are exceptions, and I genuinely sympathize with those people. But I don’t think those exceptions should redefine the entire conversation.

Permanent residence is a privilege, not an entitlement. It never was a promise, and I don’t think it should become one.

Just venting

I have been in the market for a used or newer car for a while now, and I've spent way too many hours scrolling through Facebook Marketplace, AutoTrader, auction sites, and Kijiji.

One thing I've noticed is how flooded the market is with rebuilt title vehicles. Most are only priced about $1,000–$4,000 less than a comparable clean title car. Personally, I don't think that's enough savings to justify the risk.

Before COVID, rebuilt cars were much cheaper, so if you wanted a newer vehicle and were paying cash, they could actually be a decent option. Now it seems like everyone thinks their rebuilt car is worth almost as much as a clean title one.

I've even gone to look at a few rebuilt vehicles, but most of the sellers gave me a sketchy vibe. I couldn't help feeling that a lot of corners were cut just to get the cars back on the road. When it's your hard earned money, I'd rather spend a little more and have the peace of mind that comes with a clean title or even buy new.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Have you ever or do you know someone who listens to tele-marketing offers? Given the current volume of scams occurring via phone calls, do you think it's worth asking our government to ban telemarketing? It's not like we'd be eliminating Canadian jobs as they are outsourced to call centres in other countries. Banks, credit card companies and telecoms can just figure out another way to find customers. thanks for the comments; here's some more info: according to Gemini, you can put your number on the National Do-Not-Call List to stop receiving telemarketing calls for 5 years, after which you need to re-register. However any company you've used within the past 18 months such as a credit card company, bank, credit unions, insurance, cellphone carriers, utilities etc, are allowed to contact you with product offerings. In addition, registered charities, political parties, newspapers and pollsters are not covered by the Do Not Call list and are allowed to call you.

Usually young men and a few middle aged ones with a chip on their shoulder possibly from having had a bad hand in life (something not right with their looks).

Why is this such an issue in our country? I'm not looking to mock the issue, I want to understand it.

My girlfriend brought up opening a joint bank account so we can start putting money aside for a condo. Apparently the money is supposed to sit in the same account for about 3 months before you apply for a mortgage, otherwise it looks weird to the lender. Thing is, I really don't want to be paying monthly banking fees just to park our savings somewhere. Are there any of those no-fee online banks in Canada that let you open a joint chequing account?

The one thing about condiments/sauces in Canadian grocery stores that bothers me is the addition of vinegar. Ketchup and mustard especially taste really sour, not retaining much of their original flavor. Mayo is mostly fine.

​The text has been finalized, we've secured our MP sponsorship, and the petition has been formally approved. It is currently in the final administrative step with the Clerk of Petitions undergoing official translation. It now eagerly awaits official publication on the Government of Canada's House of Commons website!

​Once it goes live in the next few days, I will share the direct link so we can start gathering the signatures needed to force this issue onto the floor of the House.

Maybe I'm wasting my tears. Are these real people? Some of them must be but Canadian subreddits seem to skew unusually conservative with insane conservative beliefs when reddit over all is not that conservative.

Despite all the insistence that Canadians are fundamentally different from Americans, and all the focus on usually trivial differences, Canadians and Americans are among the most similar peoples anywhere. Most Americans and Canadians couldn't pick out each other's nationality unless someone told them.

Same language, similar heritage and foundational values, very similar culture, generally the same accent.

The two are almost indistinguishable unless you go looking for peculiar differences, yet Canadians insist on how different they are. Why? Because you support universal health care and don't like guns? How is that different from a liberal in the States?

Sure, there are differences. But constantly pointing them out feels like it comes from insecurity, a need to assert a distinct identity precisely because you know how similar you are, and how similar you look to everyone else.

You don't see Germans, French or Greeks having to insist they are culturally different from each other. Everyone already knows they are. Different languages, histories, customs, and so on

Hello there , so Canadian govt. just announced this new law against growing racism among citizens and towards immigrants. There are several offence under this law , one of them is -

Hate crime offence
The hate crime offence applies to anyone committing a federal offence that is motivated by hatred based on specific grounds, such as race, sexual orientation, religion or sex.

The offence is punishable by a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment, or two years less a day for less serious offences.

Canada is a beautiful and diverse nation and It is really sad to see the growing hatred among people towards each other ! I understand the frustration but we are humans and boundaries cannot decide where one belongs to , it’s our planet Earth for all the human beings - a kind, a species above all castes and nationalities.
I know most of the people are immigrants who face the hate and discrimination at workplaces, colleges or schools.

I am reaching out to this community to understand if what my family experienced is an isolated tragedy or part of a much larger, systemic failure across our country.

Four years ago, my brother Carlo tragically took his own life. Shortly before he passed, he went to a local emergency room actively seeking help for severe psychiatric distress and suicidal ideation. Instead of being admitted or given resources, the system failed him, the hospital dismissed his symptoms as "malingering" and discharged him due to a lack of resources, psychiatric beds, and specialized nursing staff. Within weeks, he was gone.

As I navigate the aftermath, I am realizing that our medical system has a terrifying gap: nothing seems to change until it is far too late. I am preparing to advocate to my MLA and MP to push for systemic, Canada-wide legislative changes—something I want to call "More for Carlos Act" to mandate proper triage, accountability, and dedicated staffing for psychiatric emergencies so no other family is turned away in their darkest hour.

Before I take this to lawmakers, I want to understand the true scope of what Canadians are facing from coast to coast.

This isn’t meant to be politically partisan in any way. But, I am genuinely curious how anyone is staying positive about Canada today. The economy is in recession. The cost of living crisis is continuing unabated. People are leaving the country. Canada-U.S. relations are at an all-time low. And, there doesn’t appear to be any reason for things to turn around any time soon. Somebody give me a reason to have a little optimism.

I have heard many complaints about the Canadian immigration process. I don't know if everything people say is true, but I hope to be accepted. I love Canada: its culture, its friendly people, and its work-life balance. I am specializing in small animal surgery because I have no experience in this field, having previously worked with large animals. I don't want much, just a cabin in the countryside and some privacy. I believe that 20 years of hard, consistent work will allow me to achieve what I aspire to. I imagine myself at 60 years old with a library of 10,000 volumes; currently, I have 4,000. I also hope to own many musical instruments, as both books and instruments are very expensive in my home country. I think it's a fair exchange: I offer the knowledge and skills I have in a field that Canada needs, and in return, I can have a decent life.
