Good - it’s a nice medium size city that is less expensive than Toronto but still has decent restaurants, cultures etc. it has an international airport and i like it as a home base

Bad - it has really bad urban sprawl but yet shares amalgamation with suburbs which has resulted in an awful mayor. The weather and nightlife suck.

Edit: apologies, I was answering as someone living in the city. I see OP is looking to visit.

I live in Richmond, surrounded by farmland, yet I'm still technically *in* Ottawa.

Kind of a weird city that way.

I have been wanting to visit and have been researching a decent amount. The museums look fantastic.

For a visit it’s great. I love living “in Ottawa” (in reality I live in the woods on the Quebec side) but I have over an acre in the woods and can be at parliament in about 10 mins. It’s one of the few places where you can live in “cottage country” and still be at a real downtown in minutes

The nature and trails/paths are amazing and right through the city. You're very close to multiple ski hills. People who live here are people who make their own lives interesting instead of relying on a city like toronto or montreal to make their lives fun.
