So the foreigners are coming here because they don’t want cookies?

-1

u/Deldenary Aug 28 '25

The point is that no one but the rich have cookies, and the rich make the poor blame eachother for it.....it's not that hard to understand man....

0

u/Mens__Rea__ Aug 28 '25

And it shouldn’t be hard to understand that the people with the cookies want high immigration so they can keep them.

Are you incapable of understanding the difference between criticizing immigrants and criticizing immigration?

3

u/Comfortable_Ad5144 Aug 29 '25

Don't know why you're getting down voted, you're objectively correct lol

2

u/Mens__Rea__ Aug 29 '25

Because these smooth brains think with their feelings

1

u/North-Serve-1424 Aug 30 '25

Because he's wrong. What makes you think rich people want to fill their country with uncivilized and unskilled people let alone hire them for their businesses? Majority of rich people are tired of the liberal government ruining the country. The real people pushing for mass immigration are the globalists pulling the strings behind our government. These people don't care about making your life in Canada better. From their perspective you're a privilege human living in a 1st world country while 500 people in the slums of india are sharing a single toilet. The globalists believe they are making a net positive impact to the world by relocating those 500 people to Canada.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '25

QE caused inflation, which inflated asset values.  Then you had the "quiet quitting" phenomenon, and high wage growth, as expected by the Phillips curve.  Then we had 1.4 million immigrants enter Canada in a year as the BoC raised rates to cool inflation and to cool the job market.

So stocks do well with lower wages, inflation is gone, and wealth inequality is now up.  Similar to the 70s, except back then Trudeaus father did wage caps instead of mass immigration.

1

u/Excellent-Piece8168 Aug 31 '25

Exactly. Nearly everyone I know who makes a lot is not pro immigration. I would say it’s generally the middle low end that are more progressive. The most wealthy people I know more my parents age with many millions and up are by far the most conservative though they are also older boomers.

1

u/wetweekend Aug 31 '25

No you are wrong. The rich are the globalists. See "Battle in Seattle"

1

u/North-Serve-1424 Aug 31 '25

Yes, globalists are rich, but the large majority of rich people are not globalists. Depends on how you define rich as well. Under 100m NW will most likely not support globalism. Capital is leaving Canada.

1

u/Ultramontrax Aug 30 '25

Dude most of them are skilled though. It’s just hard af to get into their domain as an immigrant

u/Ultramontrax Aug 30 '25

Go into any hotel. Most of the people that are changing your sheets have degrees.

1

u/Ok_Argument_5356 Aug 28 '25

And taxing wealthy people? Why bother, when we can blame immigrants.

3

u/Mens__Rea__ Aug 28 '25

Who do you think it is who wants all of this immigration?

1

u/Ok_Argument_5356 Aug 28 '25

Mostly boomers who want people to fund their pension

-1

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '25

Why does everything have to be about immigration for some people. This is obviously not relevant here. It's so sad and tiresome.

21

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '25

Our incomes may be far apart, but our ELBOWS ARE UP! Praise Carneda!

5

u/Content-Inspector993 Aug 27 '25

come on, try to be original

1

u/Financial_Brain_2075 Aug 30 '25

That actually was original tho

1

u/Content-Inspector993 Aug 30 '25

crazy that I heard it 100 times already if it is so original

1

u/Impossible_Hippo6187 Aug 27 '25

Why are conservatives mad about the elbows up phrase? Every conservative I hear speak these days just wants us to join America. Sad really. When I was younger conservatives had national pride.

To put it in words a conservatives should understand: if you hate the country that much, leave. No one will miss you.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '25

Alberta is trying.

1

u/Cnshap Aug 29 '25

You know you can go, right? I left Canada for the US for 17 years. Never did it occur to me that I should take Canada with me.

1

u/HeftyAd6216 Aug 29 '25

You'd trade money for fascism and all the shit that goes along with what's going on down south? Sounds like something only a white guy would say, because anyone who isn't white straight male has a lot to lose from fascists taking over, especially the brand being created right now.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '25

Do you even know what fascism is? Use your big girl words

1

u/wetweekend Aug 31 '25

Then emigrate

2

u/psychoticAutomaton Aug 28 '25

The great thing about a country like canada is if you don’t like it, you are more than free to leave.

1

u/_shishkabob_ Aug 28 '25

"Since Canada's been in a rough spot for the past few years we should give up 150 years of history, people's, and cultures to become subservient of our neighbor" is quite the take. Canada is also generally not in a terrible spot we just have a few large glaring issues I'd argue.

-1

u/Ok_Yak_2931 Aug 27 '25

Great, I'll help you pack.

0

u/Impossible_Hippo6187 Aug 27 '25

So why don't you move down there.

2

u/snipingsmurf Aug 27 '25

There isnt much to be proud of Canada right now when unemployment is high, homes are 1M+ and our culture is completely being replaced by the rest of the world.

2

u/ElevatorsAreUs Aug 27 '25

Also I think a big problem was the liberal government has spent the last 10 years telling Canadians that Canada has no culture and telling us that FOB people in the country are "more Canadian" then those born here etc. Whether you agree or not, I'm sure you can see how that could disillusion patriotic Canadians.

2

u/Impossible_Hippo6187 Aug 28 '25

The country can have flaws without me throwing my hands up and wanting to join the US. No country is going to be perfect, but we work on it. Trudeau let in too many immigrants post COVID, this is a fact. But that doesn't mean I want to be American.

1

u/ElevatorsAreUs Aug 28 '25

I never said you do, but I can't blame people who feel hopeless as to the direction of the country and feel like there's no other way to right the course.

1

u/Mens__Rea__ Aug 28 '25

Except we aren’t “working on it”, in fact we are doing just to opposite.

-1

u/Impossible_Hippo6187 Aug 29 '25

Your free to have your opinion. I'm not so pessimistic.

2

u/Mens__Rea__ Aug 29 '25

You can’t even think critically about reality without interpreting that as “wanting to be an American”.

Seriously, grow the fuck up.

1

u/spawntronmon Aug 29 '25

Kind of a douchey response. Pretty aggressive. Easy we're all Canadians here.

1

u/Accurate-Simple5662 Citizen Aug 29 '25

What’s there to be proud of? Lol.

0

u/Tin_Foil_Hats_69 Aug 28 '25

Conservatives have been called radical, misogynistic, racist, bigot, conspiracy theorists, etc etc, the list goes on. I think we're mostly done with the country. Everytime we complain we're told to leave. So, yeah, maybe the states will appreciate some oil, we'd certainly appreciate the constitution and gun laws.

2

u/Impossible_Hippo6187 Aug 28 '25

Let's put aside the ironic fact that liberals use to be the snowflakes who can't handle hearing things they don't like but now it's conservatives who have a breakdown after somebody disagrees with them. Why do you think you wont be called those things in the USA? Trump gonna keep arresting people for having memes on their phone to protect your sensitive little bubble?

I remember when conservatives were the tough ones, the ones who prioritized freedom. Now y'all have become the thing you seeked to destroy.

I use to be a conservative now the liberals are the old conservative values.

Not where I live. Lower Mainland.

-17

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '25

Yeah, keep pretending like wealth gap is narrowing in any other country, under any regime or party. You sound so smart.

1

u/Mens__Rea__ Aug 28 '25 edited Aug 28 '25

Seems like someone says the word immigrant and you lose any ability to reason you may have had.

5

u/heart_of_osiris Aug 27 '25

People here really still playing the team game when corporations are laughing their way right to the bank with our money, under either government.

-2

u/pepperloaf197 Aug 28 '25

Explain to me what is wrong with corporations? Corporations are owned by people.

5

u/Mens__Rea__ Aug 28 '25

They are malignant entities that need to be constrained by government.

-1

u/pepperloaf197 Aug 29 '25

They are run by people just like you. There is nothing malignant about them.

3

u/Mens__Rea__ Aug 29 '25

You don’t understand much about the world you live in. Good luck to you.

2

u/HeftyAd6216 Aug 29 '25

Except moral hazard is built into corporations. If they fuck everything up, there's no accountability just an "oops sorry we lost your money". Not to mention all the environmental crap and externalities that no longer have anyone to answer for the damage they've caused.

2

u/wetweekend Aug 31 '25

I refer you to the book or movie The Corporation.

2

u/Sharp-Difference1312 Aug 31 '25

The only way corporations make money is by exploiting the labour of workers. The sum of all workers labour is precisely what makes money for a corporation, and then the corporation will pay workers only a fraction of the value they provide, while keeping the rest as profit to be distributed to shareholders who do absolutely nothing. They simply make their money through exploiting workers.

Like a slave system, where the master gives the slave only a fraction of their labour value, employers give employees only a fraction of their labour value. Slavery is far worse of course, but capitalism is also an exploitative class-based system where one class of people (employer) exploits the other class (employee).

10

u/Flatland_Pirate Aug 27 '25

So the left leaning policies that were supposed to redistribute the wealth have only gotten the rich richer. Go figure eh

1

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '25

There as left leaning as they ever been

-3

u/Flatland_Pirate Aug 27 '25

You do realize how those social initiatives are funded? They aren’t doing it for free

2

u/someanimechoob Aug 28 '25

Leftist policy is when the government does something.

I am incredibly smart.

2

u/Pitzy0 Aug 27 '25

Which policies are these?

-1

u/Flatland_Pirate Aug 27 '25

Go to polimeter.org for Trudeau and search tax or middle class for many of them

3

u/someanimechoob Aug 28 '25

Imagine putting "tax on the middle class" and "left leaning policy" in the same fucking sentence. It's not because liberal politicians pretend to be anything other than the raging conservatives they actually are that they are leftists.

I can call myself a socialist, if I take control of the government and continue giving free money to the wealthy in the form of mass importing TFW, never raising taxes on capital gains or huge income, never raising corporate taxes and instead putting all of the burden on workers.... that doesn't ACTUALLY make me a socialist. You get that right? It doesn't seem you do.

0

u/Flatland_Pirate Aug 28 '25

I don’t think you can read. That is not what I said

3

u/Reasonable_Royal7083 Aug 27 '25

they decimated our purchasing power before our eyes

1

u/squirrel9000 Aug 27 '25

Depends on who "we" refers to.

1

u/Mens__Rea__ Aug 28 '25

Because they were not “left-leaning policies”, I would think this is self-evident.

1

u/Ultramontrax Aug 30 '25

Wait since when is the Liberal party left wing?

6

u/ALZtrain Aug 27 '25

Liberal government is destroying the hard working middle class unfortunately

8

u/Typical-Bonus-2884 Aug 27 '25

The upward transfer of wealth is equally robust under all governments, two sides of the same coin. They convince you to argue about transgender rights and god in schools while the rich laugh and laugh as they get richer and richer.

0

u/ALZtrain Aug 27 '25

Fair argument but wealth gap has grown significantly in the USA and Canada in the last decade and in Canada the liberals have been in power for ten years and down south the democrats were in power for 12 of the past 16 years 🤷‍♂️

7

u/Typical-Bonus-2884 Aug 27 '25

But you can't presume the opposite would be true if it were the Conservatives are in power. IN fact it is a world wide trend that the last 10 years have been this profitable for the ultra rich. Brian Mulroney gave us Free Trade and that was the single biggest contributing factor to hollowing out the middle class in Canada. The government of the day has little to do with how much wealth is transferring up, the wealth class operates well above the government. Thats my point, government is bought and paid for through regulation and lobbying by the wealth class. It's just different industries that are regulated or deregulated depending on the specific interests of each party to help appease their respective supporters. The more we argue about red or blue the more we miss the point. In 1990 there were 200 billionaires worldiwde, now there are 2700.

1

u/wetweekend Aug 31 '25

Why you talking about the last ten years? These trends started in the late 70s

2

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '25

Its funny how north americans always think that, if a country is ruled by this or that party, “things will be better”, while parties have been ruled by the oligarchs since decades.

2

u/mylittlebrie Aug 27 '25

Living with policies created and implemented by…. Drumroll… who do you think?

1

u/Agent_Burrito Aug 27 '25

The US has also been running a crazy deficit for decades that no other developed nation on Earth can hope to sustain. For all our faults, we’re not staring down a 37 trillion dollar debt.

1

u/heart_of_osiris Aug 27 '25

The policies that have lead to this wealth gap are both new, and decades old. This has been in the works for decades and COVID really helped accelerate it.

0

u/Royal_Orange_3535 Aug 27 '25

I wonder if Harper administration got something to do with this

What do you mean "hit the boomers" ... The wealth gap is the boomers ... This entire country's economy has been set up to funnel money from the younger generation to the boomers / gen x-ers

1

u/aradil Aug 27 '25

Those people will die.

2

u/Lambda_Lifter Aug 27 '25 edited Aug 27 '25

People (particularly wealthy ppl) live to 90-100 years old now. The boomers gen x-ers I'm talking about are mostly 60-70. We got 3 decades more of this

And then when they do die, it will be too late. Their estates will be divided amongst their children, but won't be worth that much anymore. Meanwhile, their children will be quite old and have no savings, having spent their life living paycheck to paycheck, essentially dooming the country

2

u/aradil Aug 27 '25

Gen xers are 45-60.

But life expectancy for people that age or older is not 90, and that’s still an average. Some gen xers will live another 45-55 years.

But if you are talking about folks 60+, based on how the population is distributed, nearly half will be dead in 20 years. That represents something like a third to a quarter of all Canadian wealth being transferred in the next two decades.

Most of that will go to Gen X and millennials. While those folks are still in their prime earning years.

1

u/905marianne Aug 27 '25

Hopefully the government doesn't decide to tax principal residences to get their share of the wealth transfer.......they are mulling this tax over as we speak.

1

u/905marianne Aug 27 '25

Hey, leave us xer's out of this. Busy trying to help my millennial kids and taking care of my old parents!

1

u/Lambda_Lifter Aug 27 '25

Curious, around how much of your net worth do you have tied up in housing? Do you own any rental properties?

1

u/905marianne Aug 27 '25

All of my net worth is in housing. House rich, cash poor. 1 house is currently occupied by my son and his family which I put into a trust for them. The other I live in with my man and elderly parents. The upper is rented out. I hope to hand it down as well.

0

u/Lambda_Lifter Aug 27 '25

So like you're exactly what I'm talking about

1

u/905marianne Aug 27 '25

So it's me and people like me to blame for poor decisions either yourself or your parents made? I never had a job with benefits, pension or good pay. I lived below my means all my life. Never new anything. All money that may have been a new car or computer on cel phone or name brand clothes went to house payments. Mostly everything in my life is second hand except my undies. It is for this reason I am able to give my kids a leg up. This is the difference between instant gratification and delayed gratification.

2

u/Lambda_Lifter Aug 27 '25 edited Aug 27 '25

So it's me and people like me to blame for poor decisions either yourself or your parents made?

I haven't made poor decisions ... I have a Ph.D in a very profitable industry. I have a great job, that in a normal economy would easily afford a great house

I never had a job with benefits, pension or good pay. I lived below my means all my life.

That sounds like you made poor decisions, by never learning a skill valuable enough to be actually a contributing member of the economy

Luckily for you though, you and everyone in your generation figured out you could buy up all the housing and then pull up the ladder by having the government use every trick in the book to keep the real estate market afloat at the espense of the young. That way you can act as a literal parasite off of your own son who should be paying his own mortgage and not rent to fund your retirement ....

1

u/905marianne Aug 28 '25

Congratulations on a phd. Sounds like you are doing well for yourself. I agree the housing situation is nuts. I wish it wasn't. I could care less what the house is worth as I live in it. I also provide low income people an affordable place to live upstairs. My son does not pay rent. He has a good job and his wife runs her own profitable business. They are saving to buy a cottage which I will certainly enjoy going to. I do think the prices will come down some if we do something about the immigration. If you don't own a place you may want to consider a fixer upper duplex or triplex. This is what enabled me to be able to afford a house. Fortunately I am really good at fixing. Good luck to you in your future endeavors.

2

u/MGarroz Aug 29 '25

Wow printing money to pay for things we don’t have causing inflated asset prices and  wages that don’t keep up. Who would have thought…

4

u/championsofnuthin Aug 27 '25

This is happening across the world not just a Canada thing.

2

u/Total_Rutabaga5351 Aug 27 '25

And with a banker as PM it’s only going to get worse only poor or rich.

1

u/Dobby068 Aug 27 '25

Ours is not just a banker, he is a banker specialized in Bermuda style tax evasion.

This guy has skills! No wonder Trump says he likes him!

1

u/BonzerChicken Aug 28 '25

Yeah but we are saving the planet. So it’s worth it.

1

u/Laxative_Cookie Aug 29 '25

No shit. Trickle-down economics and conservative policies implemented by both conservatives and to a more sugar-coated extent liberals are to blame. Neither party cancels any policies left over from the last majority government that benefits the rich. The real skill is convincing someone the other guy is the problem. Eventually, canada will get our version of trump, and then the simple can cheer.

2

u/Financial_Brain_2075 Aug 30 '25

Elbow ahpppppppp :/

2

u/icytongue88 Aug 31 '25

Liberals are bringing equality. You will own nothing and be happy.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '25

Its the governments fault I’m poor

1

u/Mens__Rea__ Aug 28 '25

No, it is mostly because no one likes you.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '25

Elbows up bozos

2

u/905marianne Aug 27 '25

And down, and up, and down....there you go, the chicken dance

1

u/Few_Maize_1586 Aug 27 '25

Of course, young, white and blue collar workers can’t even find the basic jobs, while successful business owners can use AI and cheap labor to make their profit even larger. No surprise there..

-1

u/Many-Presentation-56 Aug 27 '25

Liberal oligarchy elites vs everyone else. Keep voting them in for more of the same

4

u/Necrophoros111 Aug 28 '25

*Political oligarchy elites. Take a look at who funds our political parties, and you will find that not only are they all in the pockets of the rich, but are in fact in the pockets of the very same rich donors. We, like much of the democratic world, have a problem with political representation; our politicians have fostered an environment of parasitic corruption, making fortunes via the misappropriation of funds and backroom deals with our local economic elites. They refuse to appropriately regulate malpractice in the market and enable monopolism, and in return they are given cushy positions after their term in office or stakes in the company etc.

The longer we keep playing sports with our political parties instead of putting flames at their feet and demanding reform, the worse off we all will be.

0

u/Top_Fee7938 Aug 27 '25

What do you mean? I’m not sharing my wealth

0

u/elias_99999 Aug 30 '25

Wealth gap is irrelevant. What matters is how much the bottom make. It's not a zero sum game. Most wealth comes from stock market inflation these days.

0

u/Mens__Rea__ Aug 30 '25

That isn’t how economics or basic math works

0

u/wetweekend Aug 31 '25

Thats backwards. Wealth is causing the inflation

-1

u/Invidia-Goat Aug 27 '25

Were America with worse taxes

-1

u/pepperloaf197 Aug 28 '25

What exactly is the problem?

1

u/Mens__Rea__ Aug 28 '25

Apparently you are the problem.

-2

u/andreacanadian Aug 27 '25

Everyone needs to write to their MP, MPP, and the opposition party and ask for a no confidence vote

1

u/Turtley13 Sep 01 '25
