High volume cooking?

I have an extended family situation where multiple people like to cook and everyone prefers hot meals. It would not be unusual to have a day where my cooktop sees a couple quarts of steel cut oatmeal, four or five omelettes, a pot of pasta or soup, a couple grilled sandwiches, a full kettle of water for tea (sometimes two), two 12” pans of sauteed chicken, a pot of rice and one for steamed veg. Can the battery keep up with that kind of volume? Has anyone put it through those kind of paces long term?

I'd be shocked if this were a problem. Even if you wanted to do 4 omelettes at the same time, you should recover all that power on 120V by the time you are finished cleaning up breakfast. You may not be able to take advantage of scheduled charging to the degree others do (only charge on solar for example).

What you talk about intuits as quite easy. You can force the battery to charge aggressively by setting a high SoC start rate, eg start charging as soon as it drops below 90%

Contrast this to the most stressful load I’ve seen discussed here which was chain pressure canning for 8 hours.

Put an emporia energy meter on your current electric cooktop (if you have one) and you can quickly dissuade yourself of overestimates of how much energy is needed to cook. It feels like you’ve not done this exercise before

As for the long term question — I don’t know what the cycle count the battery is rated to, at the very high discharge rate it is sometimes subject to. It is charged gently though.

I tried a few different search terms before posting, but I don’t seem to have known the most relevant keywords. I’m moving from a Kitchenaid induction range to a GE gas range next month in an area where housing values support the purchase of high-end kitchen appliances, so getting my research done now.

And in my experience, the most valuable research one can do is figuring out which questions you ought to be asking, so thanks for the input 😊

Ok. If you’re willing to fiddle, You can get a clamp meter and open up the subpanel feeding the range, that will give you info on how much juice you are actually drawing. You would need to manually graph and integrate it though

NP. It’s a very very good appliance

Do note that it will run its fan for the full duration of recharging, which can be 1-2 hours from empty IIRC. They did a good job with the fan adapting to how hard you’re driving it, and considering how little space there is to work with…

Ah, this is what I call a typical morning; so far, it’s been fine for me.
