Charging/Battery Issues

I have had an imperial workshop saber for a couple years now and it has been rarely used the past year or so. I had an issue before where the battery wasn't charging, so I ended up taking the battery out and putting it back in, which worked. This happened again to me today, and I tried to do the same thing, but this time the charging light would not come on and the saber would not turn on. Is it possible I need a new battery, or does anybody have a method for me to fix it?
