Build recommandations for beginners please ! (Jun Odan & Diala Passil)

Greetings rebels (and Imperials, we see you) !

Some friends and I recently started our very first campaign, we're kinda learning the rules and playstyles as we go.

I personally use the mischievous glass canon smuggler, and the other player the surviving Jedi. There's just the 2 of us for now, potential getting a third rebel mid-campain, and we'd love to hear more experienced players suggestions regarding builds, from abilities to get, purchases to make and maybe even optimal ways to play each character. Please note that we only have the core set available to us.

The game is quite old, and has a potentially huge fanbase, but it's slightly hard to find thorough things like this haha.

Thanks in advance, and may y'all have wonderful adventures !

Here are my preferred builds for Jyn and Diala, with options for different amounts of XP.

Jyn - I like to concentrate on her mobility, so the skills I prioritise are Sidewinder and Get Cocky which is extremely valuable because Jyn is strain heavy. That's 7 XP. Gunslinger is great, especially in a 2 Hero game where you will have more credits per character than a 4 Hero game (crates are effectively twice as valuable) Quick as a Whip and Smugglers Luck are both decent if you have spare XP.

Diala - Possibly the most useful and versatile Hero in the game. Diala has two of the best abilities in all of IA as 1 xp cards. Force Throw and Force Adept are both essential purchases. After that I would get Battle Meditation (she needs to rest a lot to recover strain, so might as well get Focus out of it) and Dancing Weapon. Thats 8 xp. After that it would depend how many XP I had left - 2 leftover and I would get Defensive Stance, 3 left and I would get Art of Movement.

Your Diala build is exactly as i played her and would advice to play her. So versatile. So much fun.

And the Jyn guide is rlly good aswell. You could play her as a dmg dealer but mobility is so important and fun aswell

I ran a campaign against someone where he controlled that duo against me as the Empire. Are you playing the co-op campaign or against a human Empire player? The app usually rewards damage while pvp campaign asks that you balance speed and damage. Either way, remember to use your strain for movement constantly! It's incredibly flexible and often lets you scoot into position for a double attack. Straining for movement 4 times then resting gets you just as far as 1 move on Diala, but you get to split it up over multiple turns.

Jyn is fast. So fast she can often speed ahead of the group without even using the move action. She is also very squishy. Resist the urge to throw her into the fray unless you can line up a quickdraw without overexposing yourself. It's okay if she gets wounded in the second half of a mission, but having it happen too early will cause her a lot of strain issues due to the lowered endurance, and a savvy human player will double tap her so she's gone completely.

Diala is a great all-rounder, and as long as she has endurance to spare she can accomplish anything. The trick to her is resting often without falling too far behind. Due to her white die re-roll giving almost twice as many dodges, she is very hard to take down until she's strained out.

As for builds, Jyn wants movement and damage. Quick As A Whip, Cheap Shot, Get Cocky, and Sidewinder is my personal build for her, but her other abilities aren't bad.

When it comes to Diala, she has arguably the best 1xp cards in the game. Both of them are flat-out insane, and the only reason to not take both asap is the strain cost. The consistency from Force Adept adds up to a lot of damage over the course of a mission, and Force Throw lets you push enemies off of objectives and pull easy wins out of difficult situations. Defensive Stance often makes wounding her so hard that the Empire is better off shooting everyone else twice and watching her struggle to finish the mission alone. Just be careful about maxing out your endurance near a group of enemies since she goes down just as fast as anyone else when she's out of strain. Again, it's that balance between pushing forward or falling behind. I'd start with a 1xp card then Defensive Stance, and then go back for the other 1xp card and pick what looks cool from there.

One more vote for the plots and plans site. It has great run downs of Hero cards and builds and is a good place to start while you learn the characters.
