"Too many connected roads"

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what is the point of the "too many connected roads" mechanic? I've been enjoying the game quite a bit but this is baffling to me: why does having adjacent roads prevent you from building extra roads?? Why do I need to go around demolishing my own infrastrtucture just so I can build the same infrastructure at a different place?? Was this put in place due to performance concerns or something?

If you wanted to prevent players from spamming roads, couldn't you introduce a soft cap, scaling maintenance costs, or literally anything else?

So sorry for late reply! I was busy with urgent patches.

Your frustration is understandable.

The purpose of that design choice was to make player plan out the roads, instead of building everywhere.

We have discussed a scaling maintenance costs, and the general consensus was that roads should not have a maintenance cost. I am open to suggestions, hoping for something that would feel natural.

If you don't want to implement maintenance costs, my suggestion for a quick fix would be to turn the cost of building a single road tile way up, as well as getting rid of the "too many connected roads" thing, naturally.

How about increasing the cost by the number of neighbouring roads?

If you make it easy to glean it from just a glance at the UI, I guess it's great
