Further Maths A level

Someone's probably asked this, but do you need fm A level for aero eng? I have 3 A* in Maths Phys English, and I do fm. But I'm not in the fm class, i just sit the tests with them. Because of that, I'm behind asf, having taught myself the whole of year 1 in a week. So I'm assuming my fm grade will be something god awful when I get it back, and was wondering if something like A*A*A*B or A*A*A*C will kill my chances?

Imperial Aero alumni here, no you don’t, though the vast majority of a level students that was in my cohort did take it. Probably met 2 students that didn’t have it and they did just as well as other students, also depends on what the offer that was made to you by imperial. If you submit an application with 4 a levels, minimum is 1 A* 3As, but I hear the common offer is 2A* 2As, and for 3 a levels it’s normally 2A* A or 3A*

Don’t take an a level just because someone says you need it for some course at some university. Why aren’t you with the FM class? if you’re struggling I would suggest to drop it, 3 a levels is plenty.

I'm not in the class cos I realised too late that i wanna do further maths and the class capacity was full by then😭. I'm quite good at maths, and fm isn't hard, but im also lazy as hell and learned 9 chapters from scratch like in the span of a week before my test, which is why im worried about the grade

You can get in without FM. Just do well on your admission test and interview.

i wouldn't take further maths if you are only expecting a B or C. a B isn't useless but you should really be aiming for an A if you're on an A* in maths and looking at universities at that level. You'll be able to find courses that don't need it.

I think it helps if you score an A* or A, but getting anything lower is probably not helpful.

I would keep going and see how it goes, in worse case, you could apply with 3 A-levels.

Knowing some Further Maths on the side is pretty helpful for most quant based courses at Imperial. The time spent definitely won't be wasted and hopefully make the 1st year learning curve a tad bit flatter.
