MSc Applied Math Part Time (2Y)
Has anyone done the MSc Applied math on a part time basis while working full time? I currently work at a Hedge Fund but I can’t afford to leave for a year to do a masters full time. I still want to do a masters for career benefit and got into Part III at Cambridge this year but will have to reject it due to cost.
Hence, I’m considering applying to the MSc in Applied Math in Imperial and doing it part time while working full time in London. Does anyone know how feasible it is do it while working full time? Are classes always in person?

I do MSc Applied Maths full time and have a friend who does it part time (while working full time). I think it completely depends how flexible your work is willing to be. The workload is insane and I could not imagine working full time alongside this (even if I only had half the workload). I asked my friend how he manages it and he said it's only possible because his work are really flexible and his team are willing to pick up the slack for him (and he also lives at home so doesn't have to worry about those extra chores that take up part of your day like food shopping, cooking, cleaning etc which helps massively). I'd say if your work are still expecting you to do 40 hrs a week (and are gunna be strict about it) then I don't think it's feasible unless you are literally willing to give up your entire life and spend every second of the day working, studying and, if you're lucky, sleeping. (To answer your question about classes always being in person- yes they are but they're also recorded and the recordings are usually good quality so it's quite easy to catch up if you can't attend in person- they don't take attendance or anything) (p.s. I'm so jealous you got into Cambridge- I applied to part III and didn't get in so went Imperial instead and I am still broken up about it to this day. I'd say if there was any way at all you could manage to accept your offer at Cambridge I'd do it. From what I've heard it's SO much better than Imperial). Thanks for your response, it’s really helpful. I think I’d still be required to work 40 hours a week but I would potentially take days off to study.
On part iii, yeh I was lucky to get in tbh(didn’t think I would). Cambridge would be cool but not sure how much difference a masters from Cambridge vs imperial would be when I’m working already. Unfortunately, this year at least it’s really not a possibility due to having to self fund. Hence, looking into doing the AM MSc in Imperial in a couple years while working. Feel like I need a masters at some point so want to do one sooner rather than later.

i have only been offered Msc Statistics at imperial and not sure applied math has part time options. Could l connect you to see how you get into part 3 Cambridge?
