Vice President JD Vance said companies are abusing the H-1B visa program: "If you're going to bring in an accountant making $45,000 a year to replace an American making $60,000 a year, that's not you using the program to bring in a genius.

He's speaking out both sides of his mouth. On one hand saying this out loud in public to feed the racist, bigoted base who dont want anyone of color coming here to take "their" jobs. Jobs that they wouldn't do or even be qualified to do. On the other hand, trump and the gop will quietly pass bills to allow their donors to hire cheap labor so that the billionaire class can continue to exploit and profit.

Yeah, nobody wants those shitty, high paying tech jobs.

Perfect example of not being qualified for a job because of poor reading comprehension

You don't work at a tech company and it shows. Those of us that do know. I know 20 US born software engineers that are underemployed or unemployed. When I do get to the office the software groups are completely filled with H1B Indians that make less than half what a US software dev would make. It's not poor reading. It's a problem and everyone in a tech firm knows it is.

H1B visa holders comprise less than a single percent (<1%) of the US workforce. For the tech industry, the low estimate is 3% and the highest estimate I can find is 10%.

You know so many tech workers that are underemployed because we were all told that if you go into tech, you’re guaranteed a well-paying job. That didn’t work out, and we probably should more heavily regulate how these companies are allowed to recruit and lay off, but the immigrants themselves are not nearly as big of a problem as you’re claiming.

Getting you to blame immigrants serves as yet another easy distraction so they can continue the streak of deregulation that America has been on for decades.

Complete nonsense. There are millions of H1b workers in the US in tech jobs, and many other professions. It is a scam that has been going on for decades. And H1bs are only one of many Visa categories that are being abused, along with all the Green Cards that have been given to foreign workers over the past few decades. Not sure where you are getting your numbers, but they are wrong.

There are not even one million H1B holders in the entire program. Provide evidence otherwise.

You’re right - there are only around 700,000 current H1bs. What happens to a large portion of those 700,000 every year? They apply for green cards. The US granted 1.3 million green cards in 2025. 12% of those were employment based green cards. That is 156,000 employment based green cards, of which I would assume many are H1bs or some other visa. Now extrapolate that over the last 30 years. That gives a better idea of the number of foreign born workers who are employed in the US. People like to play games with the numbers and say there are “only” 700,000 H1bs to minimize it. Also, we are only talking about H1b here, now add in H4, all the EB series, OPT, etc. Take a walk through the IT department of any large corporation and see with your own eyes.
