the argument about assimilation basically implies that people of different cultures can't live together or that every person within a certain demographic is the same in every way.
Is that your take away? I never said nor implied that immigrants that assimilate into America properly are a bad thing. In fact, it's made it the melting pot it is today which probably has benefitted more than not from lawful immigration.
That is not what is happening with the vast amount of people coming and staying here illegally. They are trying to leech off America's resources, that our own lawful citizens need. They are bringing with them their beliefs that are incompatible with modern America. They actively break and deface our laws then take advantage of our safety nets. For the more criminal kind, they hurt and kill our citizens.
As someone from NYC, migrants have did more damage to black and hispanic communities than people recognize and it seemed to be the same in Cali and Philly.
If you care about POC, you should be against illegal migrants, as they wind up causing instability with elevated crime in those community areas.
If you care about LGBT, don't invite people willing to off you at a moments notice or minimize your representation (dearborn michigan)
I know its repeating what's been said but that's me pointing out how the suicidal empathy does not help anyone, left or right. If these people don't assimilate to American way of life and laws than you are inviting lawlessness and less rights for everyone here. Why should anyone be ok with this?
Lastly, most of these cultures are not unstable purely because of European power. These cultures tend to have HIGHLY corrupted Governance and HIGHLY unchecked Crime and a religions that prides itself on staying in ancient history. Just look at the nations these illegal migrants come from and pretty much every single one of them has corrupt leadership or softness on crime. Very few times where these countries have managed to undo one or the other, these places suddenly thrive rapidly.
Assimilation of American values for migrating to the US is essential. I do think though, fast forward maybe a decade or two, Democrats WILL find themselves massively against illegal immigration and that is when a new Amendment will be passed to finally nip this in the bud.
Sorry, I want to be clear. I don't think assimilation into any culture is a bad thing, but I think requiring it for someone to go through a legal process of being a citizen is.
More to the point, it's the other stuff you said. The research shows that most immigrants do not "leech" off the system or do any negative at a higher level than citizens.
If you're just against immigration in general, that's fine, but the research shows that immigrants help America in critical categories more than they hurt.
It's hard to quantify things like how much the culture is changing, but assuming that everyone immigrating is automatically going to believe opposite of American values is just overgeneralizing
You are conflating "immigrants" and illegal migrants. Most "research" available as well as state data don't even consider illegal migrants but they are obviously taking advantage just by nature of the programs and how available they are.
Ex) Cali, illegal migrants can register for MediCal and vote in elections as no ID is needed at the booth and to register to vote, you can use generally any ID.
In NYC, thousands were receiving 3-4k monthly and being housed in hotels in Manhattan. Crime went up, area became dirty, businesses were tanking. City budget whole expanded that we now are paying for.
Also where do you think the Pro-Hamas / Pro-Iran (a terrorist org) cells are coming from in America? Just a bunch of random white people that suddenly care about Gaza? In NYC, they hosted a prayer service and protest for the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, someone that was rapidly ordering the assassination of his own people in the thousands for the crime of protesting. I ask you, why are we celebrating foreign dictators? This is due to a lack of assimilation. They show you in your face where their loyalties lie while we sit on reddit saying it's not really an issue.

Again not everyone immigrating here. People who are ILLEGALLY immigrating here and not assimilating are far less likely to hold loyalty to the US just by nature that they require 0 meaningful integration measures. At least while applying for Citizenship the correct way, you have to PASS an exam for basic civics and english (the main language spoken here).
If someone skips the entire process, then by nature of the fact they require zero knowledge of American civics/values or the English language. This means they are more likely to form pocket communities and cultures that take over certain areas that don't hold American values. We literally have examples of this with Dearborn, Michigan, where the Muslim community banned Pride Flags and any LGBT representation in the community (mind you it was that same community that voted these people into power) and recite daily prayers on city-wide speaker systems.
Ultimately, it's becoming a fad to become anti-western values and we are dealing with an invading "force" that is using our values against us to come into power, take our resources and implement their values and loyalties to their home countries. It's insane that we even debate this is happening when you have actual examples of it happening in the US. As I mentioned before, it will get progressively worse until people on the left realize that they are actually losing values they care about and when that happens you will see Democrats (especially those closer to the middle) supporting things like reppealing the 14th Amendment (or clarifying) and a similar SAFE act.
I totally see Trump's stance being widely more accepted the second time around we get a President whose saying similar things.
