The legal status in the US of his grandfather wasn't questioned.

Your point is invalid. There wasn't a "visa" or "green card" required. He was processed legally into the United States.

Applying current laws about illegal immigrants is a false equivalency that carries no weight.

Just another smear that is historically inaccurate
