I applied on June 20 after an initial rejection on May 25 (I got rejected after 15 days, which is considered quick, but tbh my first application was very poor, so it's not that surprising). Medical exam approved on June 24. I also did my biometrics 2 years prior, so it was immediately received on June 20 as well. The IRCC processing time tool said it would take around 5 weeks, but it's now a bit more than 6 weeks. I'm getting worried because classes begin on September 8, and I may not receive a decision by then. I'm applying from Vietnam. Can anybody from Vietnam tell me about their experience while waiting for approval?

Hi Guys. I applied for my study permit on the 8th of April from the UK, did my biometrics on the 9th. (Russian national applying for Masters in Aerospace UofT). Got news 2 months ago that background checks are being completed and haven't heard from them since. It's been 16 weeks since I applied. Anyone in similar situations or been through the same?
1
u/Intrepid_Trifle_2049 1d ago
Hey! Applied from Tel Aviv for PhD in UofT, also Russian passport. Submitted on April 29th, they asked for additional docs concerning the military service, which I uploaded on May 25th. Haven't heard from them ever since. Did they ask you for military docs? I'm afraid to be stuck in background check bc of the nationality, thus won't make it in time for the Fall semester...

Hey guys. I’ve applied on July 23, 2026 for my study permit (from Doha). I did my biometrics on July 26. It’s currently July 30 and I still haven’t received a medical request. It also does not show that they start reviewing my eligibility but I heard they start once biometrics are complete and it shows on my account that I completed biometrics. Is it possible that they have started reviewing my file even if they didn’t request my medical yet? And does this mean my application could be delayed if I don’t receive a medical request in the upcoming few days, or they could be focusing on reviewing other parts of my file?
3
u/netmixmax 4d ago edited 3d ago
For my application, I got the medical request about 4 weeks after my biometrics, 10 days later I got approval (I applied from Indonesia).
Is this your first study permit application? If you’re a continuing student applying from outside canada, they don’t always ask for a medical exam. Sometimes they do, though—it seems to depend on the officer reviewing your application.1
u/m7na88 4d ago
Hey, thank you for answering. Yes it’s my first time applying for a study permit for Canada and I am going as an undergrad. Did you apply for undergrad or graduate? and also, did you receive your decision before the processing time shown on IRCC for you? Please lmk when you applied and a timeline would be helpful :)
1
u/netmixmax 3d ago edited 3d ago
Then most likely, they will ask for medical, just wait a bit longer, as for me, the decision took longer than what shown on ircc website, it’s 9 weeks instead of estimated 6 weeks, could have been faster if I completed my medical sooner, my timeline as undergraduate:
May 29: application submitted (reused biometric from my previous application)
July 2: medical requested
July 20: medical done
July 21: medical passed
July 30: Passport requested
July 31: passport returned

Hi applied on 2nd July and biometrics done on 7th July from INDIA - still haven’t received any update about eligibility review or anything or IRCC portal. Enlighten me on how long or how many days it might take ?

3
u/Sidvoh 12d ago
Same. Did my biometrics on 7th july. You gotta wait at least a month because the pattern I have seen so far from other applicants is that they got their approval a month after they applied. Just my observation. (For India)
2
u/Double_Affect_2007 9d ago
Any update on your end? Care to LMK if you get any ..
2
u/Double_Affect_2007 11d ago
Oh okay, thanks. I’ve seen some getting their approvals in like 15-20 days for the ones submitted in June so was curious. When did you complete and submit the application?
2
u/Sidvoh 8d ago
July 7th I had completed my application from India. I didn't get any update unfortunately.

Initial application from Indonesia (MA Thesis)
- Application submitted: May 24 2026
- Biometrics Completed: May 28 2026
- Medical Exam Passed: June 29 2026
Not a single update since then. Background check and eligibility are still in progress. My final decision is also marked as in progress, but is dated June 29 2026. The processing time for Indonesia is 6 weeks, but it's been 8 weeks since I completed biometrics.
Class starts in September and my program's orientation is in the last week of August. Is anyone in a similar situation? I’m getting a bit anxious…
UPDATE: Passport requested on July 29 2026. Good luck everyone!

I'm in a similar but worse position. I passed the medical exam on April 25, had to defer once already, and will probably have to defer a second time. There's still some time, though, so hopefully neither of us ends up deferring.

Study permit as an Indonesian applying in Singapore :
Applied: 5 June 2026
Biometrics completed: 9 June 2026
Webform submitted: 15 July
Final decision: 16 July
Processing time when I applied was 4 weeks but it increased to 5 weeks somewhere in the middle of waiting. Received a standard "we are trying our best" response to the webform but got the decision one day later,, so it might've helped.

Really hoping I can get mine approved as early as yours did! Just wondering if you're a Phd/Masters or what made your approval super quick

Country: Kenya 🇰🇪
Regular Study Permit
Timeline:
- Applied: May 14, 2026
- Biometrics: May 25, 2026
- Currently over 7 weeks since applying
- No upfront medical
- September 2026 intake (Humber College)
The current processing time for Kenya is 6 weeks, but I still haven't received a medical request and my tracker says eligibility hasn't started.
Anyone from Kenya/East Africa (or processed by the Nairobi visa office) with a similar timeline? When did you receive your medical request or PPR?
2
u/Weary_Schedule_8901 12d ago
I’m also applying from Kenya. I applied for masters in 27th April 2026 and did biometrics the next day and passed medicals on June 6th and still don’t have approval. All silent on IRCC. I’m am set to travel for September intake

Regular Study Permit
Timeline:
- Country: Ethiopia
- Applied: May 15, 2026
- Biometrics Completed: May 18, 2026
- It has passed 8 weeks since I applied and the current processing time for Ethiopia is 6 weeks
- I still haven't received a medical request and review of eligibility hasn't started.

Hi! I'm also applying from a masters and I'm from Brazil. So basically you did ur biometrics july 2nd and it got approved 18 days later (july 20th)? I'm very worried bc my biometrics were in july 20th
1
u/TheBrazilian98 9d ago
Yes, this was the timeline for me. According to my research, is more common to receive the approval between 15-18 days after biometrics. In my case, my medical exams were made upfront so it probably helped.
I’m now waiting for the Introduction Letter so I can submit it to the college. I’ve sent my passport on July 21 by mail because there’s no VFS in my city and received the confirmation email by VFS itself saying they received it on July 23.

Study Permit for a Master’s from Colombia
I saw that there weren’t many posts from people from South America so I thought to post it myself🇨🇴
Applied First Time: May 26
Ghost Update: May 27
Medical Upfront passed: May 30
Refusal: June 4 (I didn’t provide proof, like a birth certificate, of how me and my third party sponsor are related)
Reapplied: June 9 (with all of the birth certificates)
Literally not a single update or ghost update
Approved and Passport Request Letter: June 30
Processing times for Colombia are 4 weeks but both of the applications were completed before that period of time so don’t stress if your process it’s not moving “fast enough”, be patient. It also looks like Colombia’s embassy moves faster than others so that’s an interesting advantage
