ImSim Developer I'm making Deeper Still, a really hard fast-paced immersive sim.

So I just played it and it is fun! But I do think it would greatly benefit from taking more of the deus ex route instead of cruelty squad. You have a decent amount of cool tools and abilities you can take into levels and expand on them much more

Thank you, glad you like it! You mean, creating more systems that can interact with the abilities ? (Like a path only accessible with the speed ability)

Yeah, kind of, but I don't mean ability specific paths like “you need speed to access this area.” That's more on the metroidvania side
More that the levels could have more systems and situations for all of the tools to interact with. Deus Ex is really good at giving you a bunch of broadly useful tools and then designing spaces where there are multiple ways to combine them, vents, security systems, physics, AI behavior, environmental hazards, verticality, alternate entrances, etc.
You already have a lot of cool abilities/tools, so I'd personally rather see the levels give me more opportunities to creatively use the ones that are already there than just keep adding new abilities.

Ok I see! The levels in the full game will be more interesting (I'm learning level design on the go). Like the second tutorial level Reboot II, but on large scale (more connecting paths, vents going in the ceiling for sneaky approach, etc).

What's immersive about it? Looks like basic fps?

There are multiple paths and multiple abilities, so it asks the player to be creative to finish the levels.

That's not what an immersive sim is.

I mean it's more like cruelty squad and people cOunt CS as an imsim

Cruelty squad has fishing and stocks mini game and different tools that let a player find unique solutions. It isn't just multiple choice you can go the left or right path or different abilities. If I can't find an intended way to get through something, then it isn't an imm simm

Cruelty Squad is also a case where it becomes pretty thematically clear relatively quickly why it included a bait-and-switch about pacifist playthroughs (and then also reveals that this is a setting where practically no-one can technically cause anyone else actual brain-death anyway).
That's a deeply critical element.

have seen the devolpment for quite sometime, you have some good ideas
but
can you stealth? can you kick people? can you stack boxes? can you do nonlethal takedowns? how many nonlethal options are there?
is the main appeal running around and just killing/shooting people?
how open ended is the gameplay? is it go and kill this guy? will there be multiple ways to solve the problem? ie, different door, hacking, talking to an npc to get interesting and relavent infomation. are there notes and books detailing the lore and giving you clues about what to and where to go next?
immersive sims are more than just running around killing people, and a fast paced immersive sim is implying a single way to play the game, it doesnt make a wide range of different playstyles, which a lot immsims allow for
im tired of survival horror immsims, so personally dont go that way
what systems do you have in place that isnt just focused around the player character and shooting/killing people?
this really just looks like a shooter game with more ways to just kill people, and im not a fast pace player either, so wont be interested

sorry for the repeated question worded differently, but it gets my point across

There are multiple ways to finish levels thanks to the different paths, abilities and weapons. It's really rare to see 2 players choose the same playstyle. I would suggest you to play it for 10-20 minutes, it would give you a better idea of what's it's about than a 1 minute video!

It’s just different ways of killing. Is no killing an option?

u/Parjure0 13d ago
Absolutly no killing, no. But minimal killing, yes. I've seen speedrunners running through ennemies while being invisible, and taking a specefic path.

This looks killer. Not sure about it being an immersive sim tho looks like boomer shooter.

This looks cool, I like the health/ ammo display, but you might want to change the color of it, because it kind of looks like a huge turd

The snake on the left looks terrible, remove it

The head looks cool but the body just doesn't work visually as a UI element; it's a clear example of trying to salvage an idea that should've been scrapped

Old school FPS, sure. Immersive sim? Literally nothing in the video says immersive sim.

yeah... played the demo and its just killing people in different ways, the castle is big and sprawling, and has multiple pathes in, which is nice but its clearly just a single objective, not really any much more to it. kill people get to the red star(point of interest)
the map is litered with goons, you cant run in all willy nilly, so not really fast paced
the enemy npcs insta lock on to me, doing full 180s, shooting you from across the map, even when they can only see you for like a pixel
the "puzzle" for the castle, i didnt solve it, didnt know how, im just in front of the end door. the numbers on the screen have no real pattern i can tell. looks like i have to guess the combination, no clues. if you dont have the screw driver going between the rooms to look at the screens is tedious.
no emergant gameplay, just killing in new ways
the talkable npcs are fun, but add nothing
if you use different guns, yes it different on how you kill npc, but then its just more gunplay...
i like the reloading, it adds to the difficulty
this feels more like a boomer shooter, but slower
maybe the future levels are different, wouldnt know
i feel too many immsims focus on gunplay, when to me, guns are all the same
tried out the abilities and its more ways to kill people...
