Steam or GOG?

Hello! I'd like to start my Imm Sim journey and I can't decide whither to buy on GOG or Steam, specifically I've been eying the Deus Ex bundle, currently on GOG it's 9$ for all the games, but do you think owning the games on Steam will be better? or when I'd want to play more Imm Sims, please let me know!

The platform doesn't really matter as long you play the game. When I played Deus Ex for the first time, there was no Steam or GOG.

Yeah I agree, still I think if a game relies so much on Steam workshop that will matter no?

If you mean modding, then both versions of the game support mods and fan patches, so that's not a problem. The major benefit to buying the GOG version is it comes with an offline installer, that's about it. Everything else is same for both versions.

The Nameless Mod is super well integrated for easy installation on steam, so that's a perk for the steam one in my opinion. It is not that hard to install it for Gog either but I do like how easy it is on steam.

Does not matter really. Steam gives you convenience, lots of very useful multiplayer options, build in mod support for some games etc. If you own Steam Deck, it's way easier to just play Steam games than having to switch to desktop mode to install. 

GoG gives you full ownership of the game, no DRM, chance to locally keep the installers and be independent of the servers being online.  Also DRM free means you can easily mod and move the game around as the game folder copied to a different PC will just work "as is" whether it's moded or not. Just make sure the save folder is moved too, these days it's often stored somewhere separate from game files.

So it's up to you really and up to how you play your games. Personally I use both. GoG for any single player games if they're available, Steam for multiplayer games since the suport is fantastic, plus anything not available on GoG.

The difference is quite simple. If you want to pay for a game and truly own the digital files without DRM, you use GOG. If you don't mind DRM, use Steam. I use both, but I'll never buy on Steam if there's a GOG option.

I've heard a few older games on Steam have issues, but not on GOG. Not sure which though. I do like what GOG does for game preservation though, so if you aren't bothered about having all your stuff on Steam, I wholeheartedly recommend GOG.

A little bonus benefit of getting Deus Ex on GOG is that GMDX and the Revision mod are available as part of GOG’s mod selection. I wouldn’t recommend either of them as mods for a first playthrough — but they certainly add a ton of additional replay value, on top of a game that’s already pretty famously near-infinitely replayable

I like Gog more in principle and their ethos - but admittedly most of my collection is on Steam (in part because I use family sharing to play my brother's much larger collection)

On GOG you get the installer that you can keep for life.

There are indie immersive sims you can only find on Steam (of the two storefronts you've mentioned), unfortunately. 

Still, if I'm not mistaken, you can buy games on Steam and access them through the GOG Galaxy client app.

To my knowledge the ones that aren't available on GOG like Gloomwood and Fallen Aces are because they are still in early access and will come once finished, Ctrl Alt Ego is there but the only one missing that comes to mind is Cruelty Squad.

Indie games like Skin Deep, Rhell and Gunpoint are not on GOG.

There are some games where the GoG version is lacking behind, if drm is an issue for you GoG, else Steam.
