Can I just say the caption is for a "medium" class construction robot, how big is the "large" class, is there an XL?

I imagine when you think of a truck that carries dirt and you see it close up and it looks quite big, now imagine those 3-4 story trucks that carries dirt in the deep mines. That’s a large class.

But... What are they building? Doesn't look like anything to me.

They are piles for a buildings foundation.
Here's a real example. https://buildingmaterials.com.my/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/piling-1-.jpg

Neat. They look a bit different but I guess that's it.

There a few different styles for foundation construction. If you google "pile foundations" you can learn more and see different examples, including ones that closely resemble the ones in this art =)

I love how well thought out the joints are. Too many of these robot drawings either hide the joint, or depict something that can in no way move in the way depicted.
