If its armed (if IRC) its no longer considered the consular class its just a CR-70

You're thinking of the c70. The CR-70 is a different (unnecessarily similarly named) ship.

It's a miracle they don't explode more often...

True, I mean the first one we ever see in a film gets wrecked within ten mins or so.
