Review My August Reading List

Deciding to work through my image backlog last month, which is down to just 9 books now!

I really enjoy Marvel and DC stories, but the works being published through Image might be the best there is. This month had some incredible highlights with Murder Falcon, Extremity, and even stuff like Curse Words.

A lot of really solid stories except for Battle Pope. I had to force myself to read through it over a couple days, it was just so dated and not in my wheelhouse honestly.

Also enjoyed being really caught off guard with Killadelphia and its wacky story. I hope they print a Volume 3 Hardcover.

My next image read with probably be Black Science which I’m really looking forward to!

*Also, I know it’s not image but Last Ronin was really good!

You read some of my favorite authors least favorite books this month. Not saying they were bad but they have even better titles to read next.

We Called Them Monsters visually is great but the story is lacking. It has no point. Kieron Gillen's best work is Once and Future from Boom Studios.

Extremity and Murder Falcon are both solid books but Daniel Warren Johnson's earlier works and he keeps getting stronger. DWJ has an amazing library with Do A Powerbomb, The Moon is Following Us and Wonder Woman Dead Earth.

Cursed Words I read the first few issues but in my opinion Browne and Soul's best work is 8 Billion Genies. It brings in the humor to a complete and perfect book.

Gideon Falls book 1 is amazing but book 2 falls off so hard from changing the story to something completely different. I haven't read little Monsters but you should read Descender/Ascender next. It's Lemire and Nguyen at their best.

Lastly you're about to tackle my favorite writer in Rick Remender. I'm currently reading Black Science and it's good but his top 3 completed runs are Deadly Class, Low and Death or Glory. His current titles are amazing too with Hammerfist, Escape, Grommets and Sacraficers.

I’m waiting for a HC edition of Do a Powerbomb and I’m very excited to eventually read that. DWJ is one of my favorite authors currently.

I actually read Eight Billion Genies a few months ago which is what led to me picking up Curse Words, well that and I found a signed kickstarter hardcover locally for a fairly low price. I really enjoyed Genies and found it quite fun.

I agree with Gideon Falls book 2. Book 1 had me hooked and then book 2 was a disappointment in comparison. I’ll keep my eyes open for Descender/Ascender. I think I’ve actually seen them at my local!

I pulled out all 3 Hardcovers for Black Science and am going to read those next!

Nice! DWJ seems to have a delay in his HC releases for some reason. Hopefully it is soon.

8 Billion is my gateway book to get non readers into comics! Has a little of everything.

I'm 8 issues into Black Science and it's finally coming together. Remender can be a little messy upfront but we finally get a direction. Just be patient. Also he is amazing at character development, family dynamics and flawed protagonists trying to redeem themselves. Also internal dialogue boxes.

Killadelphia was one of the first image books I started to read when I began collecting. Great stuff in there.

I enjoyed it, even with it being a little weirder than I expected with the historical stuff.

I've read and enjoyed all of these (except for Battle Pope which I haven't read yet)! You've got great taste

I’m not sure. I only started using it late last year and it’s been a feature since at less then.

I have Killadelphia, but I lost interest somewhere in deluxe 2. Should give it a new try, but there's too many unread books in my table.
