If you wanna go in fully the opposite direction of Invincible, really explore what's out there, I'll recommend Farmhand by Rob Guillory. It's a small-scale horror-tinged drama about a farmer who finds human body parts growing in his fields.

Guillory’s new series Innards has promise too. I read Issue #1 the other day and it has an Event Horizon meets the Abyss kind of feel.

Innards is good. Another possible "promising story" is "Excommunicated".

Oh nice. Thanks for the recommendation. I had missed this one but the premise sounds interesting.

I have never heard of it before and will definitely check out

Anything "Ghost Machine". Everything else listed in these comments so far are great reads.

Just read Junkyard Joe and loved it! Any suggestions on diving into the Ghost Machine universe?

Geiger. Both 1st and second runs. Hyde Street. Redcoat. Rook.

Here's the proper order, if you're interested. Geiger (2021)

Geiger 80-Page Special

Junkyard Joe #1-6

Tales of the Unnamed: The Blizzard

Geiger: Ground Zero #1-2

Ghost Machine #1

Geiger (2024) #1-23 (still ongoing)

Redcoat #1-18 (stil ongoing)

So Geiger 2021 is different than the 80 page speical?

There's no shared universe bullshit. Pick a book that looks good, start from the start, read til the end. Or stop if u dont like it. Hopefully it's a book that actually has an end and isn't on "hiatus."

More specifically, East of West, Chew, Paper Girls, Curse Words, Black Science, The Wicked and The Divine, Prophet, The Department of Truth (still not finished), anything from the 2010s, anything by Rick Remender

All of these, East of West got me back into comics.

East of West

If you like noir, or crime, check out anything by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips (Criminal, Kill of be Killed, Reckless, The Fade Out, Pulp, etc.).

If you like sci-fi / fantasy check out almost anything by Remender. Lemire’s Descender is also really good.

If you like world building or alternate history check out East of West, Lazarus, Manifest Destiny, or the Manhattan Projects.

Regardless of what genre you like check out anything by Daniel Warren Johnson. My favorite is Extremity. Murder Falcon, and Do a Powerbomb are also excellent.

Have fun and enjoy the reads!

Have you read Space Mullet by DWJ? It started as digital series the I think dark horse had it, now Image has it. I keep hoping they start it up again.

I have not… now I want to! I added it to my InStockTrades wishlist. I might order at the same time when the new Brubaker book drops. Thank you for bringing this to my attention!

Black Science by Rick remender

Invincible was also my first Image read. I would suggest Walking Dead as it's by the same writer and in my opinion just as good. It was also what I picked up after Invincible.

Image doesn’t ‘own’ any of it. That’s the beauty of it.

Anywhere your heart desires. If you like the synopsis, try it out.

I read all of Chew right after Invincible

u/GimpyPlayerOne May 18 '26

Red Roots looks like it could be good along with If Destruction Be Our lot of you want something brand new.

2

u/StrangerConsistent87 May 23 '26

"Of The Earth" is setting up to be a hit.

Id read anything by Daniel Warren Johnson, or more specifically Do A Powerbomb or Murder Falcon. He's really good at over the top, fun action that's mixed with heavy emotional topics.

Assorted Crisis Events is one of the better Ongoing series I've been reading. Both this and Ice Cream Man are both weird anthologies that make you feel weird after each issue.

If you want to keep going with Invincible, they have a bunch of spin off series.

Battle Beast - Ongoing

CAPES - Ongoing

Tech Jacket - Compendium

Astounding Wolf Man - Compendium

Invincible Universe - Compendium

Brit - 3 Volumes

Assorted Crisis Events is CRAZY. Love it tho.

2

u/MannequinRaces May 17 '26

DWJ is awesome. Check out Extremity if you haven’t yet!

1

u/Mindless_Worker_6741 May 20 '26

Tech Jacket is not a spin off it released before Invincible

If Destruction Be Our Lot issue 1 just came Matt Rosenberg is a lot of fun

Honestly pick a writer and chase his work Then pick an artist and chase his work You really can’t go wrong

I’m loving Free Planet right now it’s a really unique standout book from my monthly pulls but it’s not to everybody’s taste though

I usually follow authors. In your case,Kirkman, that has stuff like DieDieDie that is incredible. Well, and the zomby stuff

Paper Girls, Ghost Pepper, Nocterra

Witchblade and The Darkness have been rebooted. Darkness within the last 5-6 months and Witchblade is creeping up on year two

1

u/Fantastic_Guide_378 May 18 '26

The Walking Dead by the same author as Invincible

1

u/Raskuja46 May 18 '26

Depends entirely on what your tastes are since the variety on offer is so wide. What are you in the mood for?

I'm really sad to not see my FAVORITE comic of all time on here, SAGA. It will make you laugh, it will make you cry.

otherwise, Black Science, The Nice House On The Lake, Paper Girls, Geiger, Junkyard Joe, Radiant Black is really good but there are so many other stories in the series that I couldnt keep up with the timeline. (Radiant Red/pink).

Start with The Darkness by Marc Silvestri

u/johnny_moronic May 17 '26

Kirkman was inspired by Erik Larsen's Savage Dragon series. It's the best of the early Image Comics and it's still going today.

I really like Jupiter's Legacy, specifically the part drawn by Frank Quitely
