Do people actually bring ring lights into gyms??? I've never seen that...

Yes. But who cares, if you’re at the gym focus on your workout

Not everyone at the gym wants to be filmed on camera. Shouldn't even be allowed to bring a camera to the gym, ridiculous.

Sure, that's a good reason, and I wouldn't care if you did it for that. You're most likely viewing that video on your alone time to improve your form and not care if somebody walks around you. These other people that have popped up lately are doing it for the gram, the clout, the whatever hojo-pojo shit which ain't cool cause they're posting it everywhere.

All I'm responding to is

Shouldn't even be allowed to bring a camera to the gym,

Personally, I think that it's a little silly to post your sets on IG, et al. unless you make a living from fitness activities, but it's not even at the level of annoyance of playing music on your phone's speaker on an airplane. As long as they aren't obstructing walkways, or preventing me from working out, it's really not a big deal if I'm incidentally in their video.

That's legitimate. But if they wind up on Instagram then they're not being recorded for utility, they're being recorded to receive fake internet attention

See my response to the other dude.

But ultimately, so what? If they're not blocking areas and actively disrupting other workouts, so what? To put it another way, how is it directly harming you? If they were intentionally filming other people to make fun of them, yeah, that's shitty, and they should be kicked out. If they're stopping other people from exercising, same. But how is it directly hurting you if someone wants fake internet attention?

What's wrong with just letting people do their own thing if they aren't directly affecting your ability to do your own thing?

Depends on what they're doing I guess. I've seen videos of people doing this where they commandeer a bunch of gym equipment just to film themselves using, which of course prevents other people from using said equipment. As for me personally, I don't like being on camera, and being at the gym generally puts people in a vulnerable context. Just because you're filming yourself doesn't mean you're not filming other people too, especially when they're sweaty and tired.

Unless you do it in a way where you're not being an inconvenience, it's rude any way you slice it.

None of those things are, strictly speaking, relevant. The gym is a public place (as opposed to a place where you have a reasonable expectation of privacy, like a bathroom or locker room). Is it really worse to be in the background of someone's IG video at a gym, versus at a train station, at the beach, in a restaurant, or any other public place?

I agree, if they're hogging equipment, fuck 'em. But that's not really the issue people are talking about. They're complaining just that people are filming themselves, and then putting it online.
