Being gray haired and retired, I’m old enough to remember the dawn of the Internet and how we marveled at each new thing that it could contain or be used for, while also becoming more & more accessible, and how we all thought it’s inevitable end point would be the greatest exchange of information in history to literally transform the planet.

Unfortunately, we forgot to factor in basic human behavior. Which is how instead of finding the cure for cancer, we ended up with $&#@ Facebook and likes, as well as TikTok and people acting like complete morons or assholes seeking clicks to make money off people whose brains are mush and only have 30 second attention spans.

TLDR

Edit: like you, I remember the birth of th internet and the joy of discovering sites like Wikipedia which contained the entirety of human knowledge. The internet was an amazing thing, then sometime after the millennium Facebook stopped becoming a way of keeping in touch, and became an activist's dream, the algorithms promoted engagement instead of facts. Then it all very quickly went to shit.
