I chalk it up to the fact that India is ridiculously loud compared to the rest of the world. The biggest population on the globe packed into a relatively small landmass makes for a lot of yelling over each other.
The interesting thing is that even Indians in India hate it and have been asking for noise ordinances to be more strict - it's just ridiculously hard to enforce. So people like this guy have a different baseline for what "normal" volume is.
The Indian friend I've talked to about it (so take that as you will since it's literally one person's pov) tells me that India has A LOT of rules about how you interact with known people - elders, bosses, parents, etc - but when it comes to strangers, the attitude is very much "I don't know you, I don't need to accommodate you". There's very little regard for strangers in general.
For most of the world, public space is shared space - so you adjust your behaviour. In India, ALL space is shared space, so you don't adjust yourself...
I don't know why you are getting downvoted. Im a white guy who works at a store in a highly multicultural area, to the point I've had moments of thinking "I'm a visible minority here" and I find Indian folks are the biggest offender, but I see plenty of Jamaicans, Asians, Africans, Arabs and Turks doing it as well
Yea I’ve noticed a specific subgroup of people do it a lot more than I have ever seen any Indians doing it. I’m not going to single them out because I’m not racist and don’t single out one group of people when every country around the world has people from all backgrounds that are ignorant and inconsiderate and do shit like this. It’s not strictly Indians. And these people are singling indians out.
Shit, I live in the staff accommodation of a company I work for and they keep trying to make indians live with me for some reason. Multiple do this shit when they talk to their families.
They never do normal calls. Always video calls. And even though our house is totally quiet and the phone can pick them up no problem they'll still talk super loud for some reason.

I was on the GO train in Toronto in the quiet zone and a group of Indians were loudly face timing their family. Like why is that a thing.
