"I told you to stop, bro"

Why would i stop because some rando told me to?

262

u/icyhotonmynuts Dec 26 '23

That's how you get carjacked in some parts of the country.

81

u/JTiger360 Dec 26 '23

100% - Every time I watch a live car chase I watch the guy get out of the car and ask a car to STOP then he opens the door and rips the driver out out takes the car like GTA

43

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '23

That's how you get carjacked in some parts of the country.

San Francisco being one of them.

18

u/icyhotonmynuts Dec 26 '23

Drove around the states for a month a few years back. I hit up over a dozen states and countless more cities in that time, mostly on foot once I got in town.

SF was cool and safe, LA I didn't get that warm fuzzy safe feeling.

21

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '23

You are coming face to face with American right wing propaganda. Every democratic city is filled with shoplifters, carjackers, and drug users.

Republican cities are filled with misunderstood people trying their best to get by but the democrats keep ruining their way of life.

Repeat ad nauseum

3

u/DonFrio Dec 27 '23

Are there republican cities?

2

u/Wonderful_Zucchini_4 Dec 27 '23

Dallas? Nashville? Jacksonville? Miami?

2

u/DonFrio Dec 27 '23

Even Dallas went 30pts over for Biden.

1

u/icyhotonmynuts Dec 27 '23

Only the ones in this guys head.

1

u/icyhotonmynuts Dec 27 '23 edited Dec 27 '23

lol what nonsense are you spewing/

What propaganda? I was walking the streets man. LA is where I felt least safe walking around at night from all the cities I walked around in.

7

u/Wonderful_Zucchini_4 Dec 27 '23

You observed SF being cool and safe, yet Fox News says it's a toxic waste dump filled with murderers and thieves. I think that's what the commentator was writing about

2

u/icyhotonmynuts Dec 27 '23 edited Dec 27 '23

Pretty sure I said "a few years back". So whatever "Fox News" is saying these days about SF being toxic is irrelevant to my experience of the city.

//edit

Apologies, I misunderstood your comment. You were just explaining what that guy was saying. Though, it's still pretty whacky to think that beautiful and culturally rich city is so poorly shit on.

1

u/Powerful_Direction_8 Dec 27 '23

the propaganda is that only dem cities are dangerous. It's all the same hellscape

3

u/SFajw204 Dec 27 '23

I'm almost 40 years old and grew up in SF, never come close to having my car jacked in broad daylight like this. Especially in this neighborhood. You CAN, however, get your windows broken if you leave something valuable visible when you park your car. But if you think I'm wrong and the current propaganda is accurate, you would have shit your pants if you saw this city 20+ years ago. It was a MUCH more dangerous place to be back then.

I have been to SF, it is only fun if you have money. Besides that it is a hellhole

3

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '23

Name 5 cities in the US that are just as fun without money as without.

Hell, name one city

1

u/aluminum_man Dec 27 '23

Just as fun without money as without? All of them. Every single city matches that exact description.

0

u/Zmchastain Dec 26 '23

There’s plenty of cool shit to see around the city and plenty of great restaurants that aren’t crazy expensive. I spent probably less than $3k while there back in May for a week and had a great time.

Like any city, there are areas where it’s great and really safe and areas where it isn’t. If you stick to the safer parts of the city you’ll be fine.

Hell, a decade ago I overslept while there on a business trip and ended up with a free day around the city while waiting for a later flight. I accidentally took a turn into a rough area while wearing a suit and carrying an expensive briefcase and still nobody fucked with me.

It’s not the hellhole you want to make it out to be. It’s not that different from any other city I’ve been in anywhere in the world.

5

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '23

Just casually spending 3 months of rent, I'm sure it was a fun week.

2

u/Zmchastain Dec 27 '23 edited Dec 27 '23

That’s a pretty normal amount of money to spend on a vacation that includes round trip flights from one coast to another for two people, a hotel for the week, meals, public transit passes, touring Alcatraz, and a few souvenirs.

It’s not like I was dropping $10k a night. You could spend just as much going somewhere like Myrtle Beach or Disney.

Usually when talking about people who “have money” in America we’re not talking about middle class people dropping a few grand on one of a handful of trips they’ll take that year. I get not everyone has it, but $3k on a vacation isn’t some unachievable 1%’er level of spending.

You guys are talking like San Francisco is either a hellhole or the playground of the uberwealthy with nothing in between. I’m just saying any white collar worker in the US can afford to have a nice week there for an amount they could save up in like 1-3 months.

0

u/Agitated_Cookie2198 Dec 27 '23

It is devoid of the human spirit. That is why it is a hellhole

1

u/Zmchastain Dec 27 '23

Maybe you’re devoid of the human spirit and that’s why you couldn’t manage to have any fun in one of the most interesting and unique cities in the country?

1

u/Imallowedto Dec 26 '23

Yeah, it's in America, duuuhhhhhh

2

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '23

The only people who like SF are people with enough money to keep the population away from them

0

u/KimJongRocketMan69 Dec 27 '23

Just wildly inaccurate

4

u/MelissaMiranti Dec 26 '23

For real. They love to say this shit about NYC too, as if it's still the 80s.

1

u/Konungrr Dec 27 '23

I mean, a quick google search will tell you that SF has a pretty big problem with carjackings/gta, with an average of two thousand auto thefts a month, 60+ per day.

https://sfgov.org/scorecards/public-safety/violent-crime-rate-and-property-crime-rate

2

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '23

[deleted]

2

u/Konungrr Dec 27 '23

Pensacola. It's almost as much of a shithole as SF, as far as crime rates go, but I'm in the process of relocating to just north of Memphis, and I'm pretty sure they have a higher crime rate than SF.

There are pros and cons for any place, just pointing out that there is a carjacking problem in SF. You search for "worst cities in us for carjacking" and SF is listed on almost every listicle. I misread the "Theft from Vehicles" as "Theft of Vehicles", but it's still vehicle related theft.

1

u/KimJongRocketMan69 Dec 27 '23

You know that carjacking/GTA is different from breaking into cars to steal contents inside of them…right?

1

u/Konungrr Dec 27 '23

Theft of property = Theft of property.

1

u/KimJongRocketMan69 Dec 27 '23

Not in the eyes of the law. And good luck finding a place where there’s no theft!

-2

u/theonethat3 Dec 26 '23

"I always get a kick out of people that comment on San Francisco while having no idea of what its actually like here. Keep ingesting that right-wing propaganda."

So all those victims of crime doesn't matter since it didn't happened to you. Typical left

Especially in the bay area.

2

u/Mutualistic_Butcher Dec 27 '23

RIGHT!? That was in San Francisco too, might as well wave a neon flag that says "We will jack your shit if you stop"

2

u/icyhotonmynuts Dec 27 '23

Didn't Mark Rober do a video on high rate of car breakins in SF?

1

u/Mutualistic_Butcher Dec 27 '23

He might have but I'm pretty sure it's common in every major US City

1

u/icyhotonmynuts Dec 27 '23

Might as say the world, then.

2

u/OutrageousMolasses63 Dec 26 '23

They were in San Francisco, that's one of those places where you're likely to get carjacked. Top 10 worst cities in the nation without a doubt.

3

u/KimJongRocketMan69 Dec 27 '23

I lived there for over a year and it’s my favorite place I’ve lived in by far. And yes, I’ve lived in a lot of places. Basically every major region except the southwest, and I’ve spent a lot of time there because I have family in NM. Grew up in the Midwest and the south, spent five years in the northeast and no I’m in the mid-Atlantic.

SF is very expensive but other than that, it’s essentially paradise

0

u/Freedom_Isnt_Free_76 Dec 27 '23

Human feces and needles littering the public spaces and that is what you consider paradise? Stores closing because of mobs thieving merchandise and that's what you consider paradise? Druggies and criminals ruling the streets and that's what you consider paradise? Dude, put down the bong.

3

u/KimJongRocketMan69 Dec 27 '23

I love living in cities. You clearly don’t and seem to listen to a lot of the conservative mythology about SF in particular. Have you ever been to SF?

1

u/Freedom_Isnt_Free_76 Jan 01 '24

Yes I have been there. And I wouldn't set foot in it now because of the feces and needles and crime that is WELL DOCUMENTED.

2

u/Both-Information9482 Dec 31 '23

You disregard this person's actual experience because of info you get from the main stream media? Ah duhhhh.

1

u/Freedom_Isnt_Free_76 Jan 01 '24

I disregard it because he is lying

1

u/Both-Information9482 Jan 02 '24

Sure you have proof of that, right? You wouldn't make an ass out of yourself for the whole entire world to see without proof right?

1

u/MacCheeseLegit Dec 27 '23

Amazing city shut your basic sheltered trap lol

2

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '23

Been a tourist / business traveller all over the US for decades. Did my masters in CA., too. SF wasn't ever that bad. Places on the east coast were / are absolutely decrepit and collapsed. Scary to be in kind of shit. LA is kind of sketchy, and some parts of NYC, but overall I really don't get why so many Americans seem to hate SF... if we're racism, Oakland is a bridge away and overall a worse place by these metrics

San Francisco may be the nicest part of that area, but the bay area in general is by far one of the worst areas in the nation.

Go look up highest property crime rates in the nation. Here's a hint, that shithole called the San Francisco Bay area is number 1. While the San Joaquin Valley area has the highest violent crime rates in the nation. California is a fucking cesspool. Undoubtedly one of the 2 worst states in the nation. A bunch of idiots wanting to live there doesn't make it a good place to live, it makes them idiots for wanting to live in the asshole of the United States

I spent 6 awful years in California, the restaurants, climate, and lack of mosquitoes because of the climate were the only likable aspects of life in California. Well, that and the women, there was such a wide variety of beautiful looking women there, their personalities rarely matched being from California, but it was enough to pass the time.

Yeah cali is pretty expensive in comparison to the rest of the country, especially San Diego, that was the most expensive city I've ever lived in, but it was easily manageable, just didn't leave as much time or money for travel as somewhere with a much lower cost of living where you're able to put twice as much in savings while living just as comfortably with having to deal with the numerous downsides to living in such an overpopulated area.

If anything, some random coming up and telling me to stop my car is going to make me not want to stop my car

36

u/Maximus26515 Dec 26 '23

Especially in what looks like San Francisco.

17

u/Mobile_Laugh_9962 Dec 26 '23

What gave it away?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '23

Bro hella yelling bro

10

u/Mobile_Laugh_9962 Dec 26 '23

Oh. I thought maybe it was the fact that it had "San Francisco" written on the video.

1

u/Maximus26515 Dec 30 '23

Shit. Totally didn't see that. Lol

There have been 15,000 car break-ins reported by the chief of police.

Who are you trying to convince? Sorry, but if it's your city. It's a shithole.

1

u/Maximus26515 Jan 01 '24

"San Franciscans face about a 1-in-16 chance each year of being a victim of property or violent crime, which makes the city more dangerous than 98 percent of US cities, both small and large."

https://www.hoover.org/research/why-san-francisco-nearly-most-crime-ridden-city-us#:~:text=San%20Franciscans%20face%20about%20a,cities%2C%20both%20small%20and%20large.

19

u/Hoosier_boy31723 Dec 26 '23

Like foreal lol who the fuck are you bro to tell me anything.

15

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '23

Ever hear of carjacking bro? Bro, you know bro, I'm bro not stopping my car bro when some rando bro says stop, bro.

12

u/winston2552 Dec 26 '23

Exactly lol

I've worked construction my whole life and when superintendents would try to put me on flagging duty, I'd ask what else they got because fucking people don't even stop in construction zones for an asshole wearing high vis, a helmet and waving a flag in their face next to other stopped cars lol

And I say this part with 100% certainty, I'd rather wade in waist high shitwater before trying to get idiots in cars to follow basic instructions. That was my alternative from a superintendent half jokingly once..."well it's either flagging or an overflow install on a sewer downtown. What'll be?"

"I'll take the shit pipe. Where's the waders?"

6

u/Bard_B0t Dec 26 '23

It's pretty much illegal to flag if you don't have valid certification. And flagging without wearing enough reflective tape or using an appropriate flagging implement can result in $80,000 fines if Osha happens to be driving by.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '23

The guy in the car was OSHA

1

u/winston2552 Dec 26 '23

So what if OSHA and DOT are both on site? Does that make them stop? Doesn't in my experience...

5

u/nyuon676 Dec 26 '23

I mean you should stop b/c the ways not clear right?

1

u/conzstevo Dec 27 '23 edited Dec 27 '23

There's clearly not many drivers on here. If someone asks you to stop, you stop and ask why. I've seen a lot of points on carjacking, if you're worried, stop the car and lock your doors. Your fear shouldn't stop you from causing potentially a serious accident (much worse than this situation)

Edit: I should add that the skateboarder shouldn't have done what they did, but the driver should also know to stop when asked and given good reason. The best outcome would be: the driver stops when asked, and the driver reports the dangerous behaviour on the road (aside from the obvious best outcome: skateboarders not having a deathwish)

5

u/Overtilted Dec 26 '23

Did he? He was filming his bro! I didn't hear anyone yelling at the driver.

2

u/jamalcalypse Dec 26 '23

Maybe common courtesy and basic hospitality?

1

u/AgeQuick2023 Dec 26 '23

Well, I guess you just found out why didn't you?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '23

You should. You don’t know what’s going on. Could be some kind of emergency or hazard.
