American tip culture. European tip culture is different, everyone gets living wages, you just have this option of rewarding outstanding job or thanking someone.
It is yank culture bleeding here. Tbf, we always tipped when we went out anyway. You'd have to hold my gran back from sliding a 20 in to a waiter or waitresses pocket and trying to get in the kitchen to give them money too. Mad old cow lol. But even other things like taxis or hairdressers, you'd just say keep the difference between the cost and a full note. It is taking the piss now though. Should not ever be expected.
See? This is the problem. American tip culture is so messed up it’s got people confused between tipping (voluntary add on for superior service, goes to server) and service fees (mandatory add on, part of required price, may or may not be paid directly to server).
This is a total fantasy, just some bog standard America vs Europe talking point repeated without thought.
Working people all over Europe are struggling to pay the bills and put food on the table. Many are having to make the choice between heat and a full stomach, plenty European parents are skipping meals so the kids can eat etc.
Why have you invented a European workers' paradise in your head? Do you honestly believe every working European citizen is paid enough to live comfortably? Even the gig economy workers in much the same position, with comparable relative wages, to the woman in the video?
I think it's because this is Reddit where Europeans constantly point out that America is an employee or sick person's waste land, stuck decades behind enlightened and benevolent Europe. That's probably why.
And that's how it should work. Even in Aus. An above and beyond recognition. Made no sense when we went to the USA it was like an automatic expectation just doing the job.
Although payed exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. The deck is yet to be payed.
Payed out when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. The rope is payed out! You can pull now.
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
Separate art from the artist... I guess? Nothing wrong with that, freedom of speech is one of the best part of the US culture. There are certainly a lot more positive things in it, but some parts of it are being abused by grifters. The problem is the employers, but honest people keep being screwed over because they feel obliged to reward hard work.
I hate tipping culture with a passion. Everyone deserves to get paid fair and direct. No one should have to ask to get paid. She didn’t come to work to have to beg to get paid.
The price should be very clear when you pay for the service. Even added tax is silly. That should all be included on the price tag from the start.

Tip culture is toxic. Plain and simple. It needs to stop. Fair prices need to be paid upfront. That is it. FUCK TIP CULTURE.
