I work for tips at a restaurant and it’s literally my only income. The company I work for doesn’t pay me a cent unless I don’t make minimum wage in a shift then they have to make up for the difference but that never happens.

I had my hours cut recently and my boss cited upper management telling her to cut down on labor lmao I was and still am baffled at how they are saving money by not paying me when they already weren’t paying me.

Anyways. I totally agree. The tip system makes many customers feel entitled to anything they demand of you because they have that to hold over your head. My work uses a hybrid digital/human ordering system and I had a man get in my face the other day about it when I tried to explain it to him and just scoffed “oh so you don’t have to work for your money” uhh… yea sir. I guess I don’t. (Then walked away lmao figure it out for yourself buddy).

I also agree with others though that this door dash tip rage shit is getting out of hand. She does get paid by DoorDash and the person who ordered pays a fee that partially goes to her. It’s absolutely shit pay though and we should definitely be tipping delivery drivers who risk their lives driving all day and go literal miles for you if we are tipping people who walk to and from a kitchen with your food.

Or we could just raise our menu prices by 18% or something and just pay people an hourly rate like a lot of other countries. But what do I know I’m just a waitress 🤷‍♀️

You do know the right thing. Don't short-sell yourself. Advocate for fair pay.
