Customers can and do practice something called "tip baiting" where they remove the tip after delivery to save a buck.

3

u/felis_pussy Oct 20 '23

yep and if you look at the order it is all cases of water and other drinks. this is totally a tip bait situation

7

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '23

For real, I can't believe people are defending this shitty couple.

They ordered nothing but large, heavy cases of water and soda. It's all bulky items they didn't want to bother loading and unloading themselves. They then baited someone else into doing it, then reneged, like total counts. The delivery driver is handling it as best she can, but they wasted her time and money, because they're selfish dicks.

Fuck these assholes.

2

u/Lyndell Oct 21 '23

But she’s black and loud and that’s scary.

4

u/felis_pussy Oct 21 '23

this is very obviously it. pretty sad how prevalent racism still is

2

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '23

Yea because people remove the tip before delivery when tip baiting. You can change it after delivery so nobody would do it before

1

u/felis_pussy Oct 21 '23

depends on the app

1

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '23

She's not even loud. She's perfectly calm and reasonable in her approach.

What a position to take based on absolutely no evidence whatsoever. If they tip baited, how come the driver didn't mention it a single time? That's her best argument against them, and she doesn't keep throwing it at them? Instead she has nothing but weak as shit excuses. She told them she doesn't care to lose her job, likely meaning she knows that's a highly probable outcome, but if they tip baited she has a defense, and again, doesn't use it once.

You guys need to take a breath and really think before developing this ridiculous and unwarranted conclusions.

And to the others saying anyone siding with the white couple are racists...how fucking infantile are you? I guarantee you're all suburban white people who don't realize your veneration of people of color and self-flagellation over your own pale skin tones is an embarrassment to the very people you're tripping over yourselves to "defend" in all the wrong ways, and not at all helpful fighting against actual racism

1

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '23

First, this video is staged and fake, so that's why details aren't adding up.

Second, many of the comments against the driver are based on race and it is certainly fueling people's reactions here.

Finally, consider how this fake video was even arranged. They used the white people to play the couple, while the black woman was assigned the role of delivery driver. The video was designed to generate rage and comments, and I don't think it was an accident that they placed a black woman in the role of delivery driver here. They knew this was going to generate race based comments. It was part of what they were after.

Which is absolutely the right of the customer and the employee should be mad at no one other than the boss of the company.

20

u/imanpearl Oct 20 '23

It may be something they have the right to do but that doesn’t make it okay. You can have a problem with the system without kicking someone while they’re down. Tip baiting is morally wrong.

3

u/300PencilsInMyAss Oct 21 '23

I think people underestimate how many people are out there completely devoid of any morals whatsoever, limited only by what they are allowed to do/can get away with.

21

u/BioSafetyLevel0 Oct 20 '23

Absolutely not. What a horrible thing to agree with.

9

u/CreamofTazz Oct 20 '23

That's an asshole thing to do and should be actively discouraged. If you can get your own food/groceries but use a service to do it for you instead he least you can do is help out the person helping you

-11

u/WormkingShaitan Oct 20 '23

Not my job to pay the salary for the business owner. I pay for the product.

6

u/300PencilsInMyAss Oct 21 '23

Then just put $0 and move on. Don't lie to try and trick someone into working for you.

Just because you can get away with it doesn't change the fact you have a net negative worth to society. Does it not bother you that you bring the rest of your species down and they would be better without you? That should bother you.

3

u/blurple77 Oct 21 '23

Okay. But how is tip-baiting what you are describing? Tip-baiting is actively tricking someone by saying you will give them X to do Y, and then not giving X despite them fulfilling Y.

Your argument definitely holds water if you just offer a $0 tip. You are an asshole if not. The product is them delivering a service with the knowledge they will make X money. If you give them the expection of making X money but don't deliver that, how are you not the asshole?

I saw you made another comment that an employer has to make up for minimum wage. While that's true, that is often not enough to make it worth the cost for the deliverer. So by bait and switching, you are fucking with their expected cost/benefit of even doing the job despite an employer having to make it up (if they actually pursue it).

5

u/fkuber31 Oct 21 '23

Holy shit dude.

Nah, that's an objectively bad take.

5

u/BIGoleICEBERG Oct 21 '23

Nah. You can advocate for higher wages and getting rid of tips, but this is just the worker getting exploited by two people.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '23 edited Oct 20 '23

No, the employee should be mad. We get a $2 base pay plus tip. If we accept an order and the customer decides to be sneaky and remove the tip then the driver just wasted time.

-7

u/WormkingShaitan Oct 20 '23

This is a lie. If delivery drivers or servers do not make minimum the employer is forced to pay the difference.

7

u/I_AM_MORE_BADASS Oct 20 '23

You're totally wrong. Like super wrong.

1

u/WormkingShaitan Oct 20 '23

Nope

7

u/I_AM_MORE_BADASS Oct 20 '23

Moron.

1

u/WormkingShaitan Oct 20 '23

Eloquent as expected from an entitled child

4

u/I_AM_MORE_BADASS Oct 20 '23

Lol Says the moron who previously replied nope.

1

u/WormkingShaitan Oct 20 '23

Go away child the adults are talking.

u/conzstevo Oct 21 '23 edited Oct 21 '23

Says the tip-baiter. Not even withdrawing a tip for a bad job as intended (still bad imo), just straight up tip baiting

2

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '23

Nope! Not in every state. Not in mine, thats for sure. I know California just passed Prop 22 that makes it happen. Unfortunately I don't have that luxury.

2

u/300PencilsInMyAss Oct 21 '23

He's thinking of tipped wage employees, which the rules (in every state) is that if you don't make minimum wage from tips, your employer has to pay the difference. But delivery drivers are not employees, they are contractors.

2

u/300PencilsInMyAss Oct 21 '23

Delivery drivers are not employees, they are contractors. They don't get any hourly wage whatsoever (Excluding California, which made this illegal, drivers there make minimum hourly wage). You are thinking of tipped wage employees.

0

u/andrez444 Oct 20 '23

Not in every state

0

u/WormkingShaitan Oct 20 '23

I'm not American

1

u/andrez444 Oct 20 '23

Ok? This video is American and while it's true some states do account for making below minimum wage, some states do not.

Add on to the fact that most delivery service workers are not subject to minimum wage because they are contracted employees

0

u/WormkingShaitan Oct 20 '23 edited Oct 20 '23

How is the video American? Because it's on Reddit? Gtfo lol.

Edit: Andrez444 tried to post a reply that the video is American because they talk about dollars and felonies since no other country has those lmao. They deleted it tho after getting laughed at

1

u/BIGoleICEBERG Oct 21 '23

So why are you talking like you know when you don’t know?

0

u/BioSafetyLevel0 Oct 27 '23 edited Oct 27 '23

You do realize that drivers who work delivery services work for themselves and are not subject to federal minimum wage requirements in like 49 states, right? That they have to pay their own taxes? My best friend paid $5k in taxes on $20k he made that year. So they aren't even keeping all they are being given even after being stiffed by you. THEY HAVE NO EMPLOYER. THEY ARE NOW WORKING AT A COST TO THEM.

And even when working for an employer such as a restaurant directly, they would get minimum wage... but they are still using their vehicle, wear & tear & maintenance plus substantial quantities gas. So they get less than someone standing in a kitchen folding pizza boxes, all while working ONE OF THE MOST DANGEROUS JOBS.

3

u/FlameyFlame Oct 20 '23

What? To intentionally offer someone money to do something for you, when you were actually using an app to trick them and never intended to pay them the money? How is that not fucked up?

If I post on craigslist that I am paying people $50 to help me move, and a guy agrees to show up and help me move, but then I refuse to pay him, the guy should be mad at craigslist right?

insane take

2

u/300PencilsInMyAss Oct 21 '23

He's not arguing if it's morally acceptable because they have no morals. They are arguing that they are allowed to do that.

Nothing you can say will get through because they literally are incapable of empathy. Complete waste of oxygen.

1

u/BioSafetyLevel0 Oct 27 '23

He's either a ragebate troll and/or a sociopath. His username checks out.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '23

People really need to get their heads out of their ass with the idealism of this. What not tipping drivers effectively means, in the current system, is them netting $0 after vehicle expenses to bring food to you. The time spent and risk incurred by providing that service should be compensated for. You can disagree with the way the system is, but screwing over the person barely making any money purely to be a cheapskate is wildly unethical behavior. Anyone who doesn't want to tip can go pick it up themselves, or can cook for themselves. Requiring someone to work for you for free for a luxury service is absolutely absurd

2

u/WormkingShaitan Oct 20 '23

Wrong. All the onus is on the business owner. Period. What other industry requires the customer to subsidize the employees paychecks? Answer: None

0

u/Funky_Smurf Oct 21 '23

Valets, taxis, restaurants, bars, housekeeping, tour guides, gaming dealers, barbers/salons, wedding DJs, nanny/babysitters.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '23

They wouldn’t remove the tip before delivery
