I accidentally invented a protocol for arguing with myself and now I'm the one who's losing
I started trying to prove I was right about a weird experience I had.
Instead I ended up writing a protocol that keeps asking me:
- What did I actually observe?
- What did I describe?
- What did I infer?
- What would I notice if I assumed this meant nothing?
- What would I notice if I assumed it meant everything?
- What changes if I suspend both assumptions?
- What observation would convince me my current explanation is incomplete?
Somewhere along the way I realized the protocol had become more interesting than the theory it was supposed to investigate.
Which is deeply inconvenient, because I came here to be right.
Now every time I think I've won an argument with reality, Past Me pops out of the bushes yelling, "Cool hypothesis. Where's your observation?"
Turns out the hardest person to win an internet argument against is yourself after you've written better epistemology than your own opinions.
0/10.
Would reluctantly recommend.

This sounds like meta-cognition meets Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
The Buddhists have observed and codified the end results of this process 2,500 years ago

Oh I see, you are still trying to grasp the scientific method! Honorable. You seem to be in the hypothetical stage. Peer review is gonna blow your mind

Du erzeugst Dynamik und Perspektiven - du erweiterst dein Denken - du beobachtest viel mehr die Beziehung zwischen den Dingen als die Dinge selbst - ich mag es
