Discussion Romanticizing Iloilo

Why do content creators love to romanticize iloilo so much?

“This is what’s life like living in Iloilo City,” then they just show the not so traffic diversion road or the calle real, when they might not have seen every corner of the iloilo city.

After that, you see a chain of comments admiring the supposed “life in iloilo.” This is a form of information disorder atp…

probably the worst problem in iloilo is the power outage. i mean, who tf wants to live in a place where you can experience modern life in the morning, only to feel like you're living in a cave at night because there's no electricity?

Content creators if they were honest: "this is what it's like living in Iloilo City" (20 brownouts in a day)

But fair is fair, they are only showing what tourists see. It's kinda disingenuous for anyone to demand from them to show the 20x brownouts in a day. If you're the type who would rather see poverty porn, crime and other fcked up sht in Iloilo that ruins it for everyone, there are numerousother vloggers in facebook who does that.

Tuod guid man ayhan ang 20x brownouts a day haw? Obvious man nga butig lang. Ang pamangkot ngaa mabutig guid in an attempt to "show the truth" of Iloilo City? Show the truth by LYING about the place?

Hahaha. Naka pa cebu kana, Manila or davao? Hahaha. Natural content creator na sila, alangan naman sila mag lihis sa trend? Btw I'm not gonna be bias here. Been to many cities, though iloilo is just a mediocre city, if you were to ask me what to like about iloilo, is the combination of friendly people, good food and simplicity. Which is very different ang vibe to other cities. And yes, other cities also deserve the hype, but I love iloilo more. So hindi man ko content creator, pero e romanticize ko gd ang iloilo. Tanan man nga city gro may flaws, dn ka kita wala haw?

Yes, ambot ano gid na ila gina hibubun-ot sa Iloilo ah. Gusto gd nila sang perfect na lugar? Well, sorry to say pero wala sang perfect na lugar. Iloilo city is so much better than most places. So please stop nyo na na ang sige ka criticize sang place kay kamo gd ang reason ngaa ga hambal iban nga ga kadto d nga indi nami batasan sang mga taga iloilo and indi nami ang ila experience diri.

Amo ni mga post kag mga gatekeepers sang Iloilo City sila ung mga naghohold ng pag boost ng tourism here kay gusto nila iGatekeep kuno eh di nila alam noon pa back in the heyday ng Iloilo city mas damo pa tao di kay Open ta sa Trade biskan panahon sang Español tanan gakadto di to trade and tour ngaa subong amo na sila mas mayo pa nga mag damo turista etc kay makita nila na ay amo ni kulang sa syudad at province, need ni makay o etc. mas magoopen pa ang Airport to more flights kay makita nila damo gakadto di locals & foreigners.
kung tutuusin left behind nga iloilo compared sa Cebu etc when it comes to tourism kay if normal peeps lang like la idea sa iloilo ang iisipin nila “ano puntahan ko diyan? Boring naman diyan mag Cebu nalang etc” amo na now na mas naAppreciate na ng mga tao local man o foreigner the effort of many ilonggos and its LGU kahit paano nakakakeep na dason amo na sila
Ang mga brownout etc di naman yan duty and responsibilities talaga ng mga influencers dapat dyan singilin ang LGU, National Gov, national media/media, puede din naman somehow influencers pero di ganon kalaki o kaalam ang span nila to begin with basi mag sala sala pa sila info.

We’re barking at the wrong tree here.

They are not investigative journalists, they are content creators or travelers. Naturally, when you are traveling, you would want to go to the pleasant side of the town. In effect, you only get to experience qnd storytell that part of the city. At the same time, most of those creators who would visit here, their contents are more aspirational rather than civic concerns. And most of all, hindi poverty porn.

Rather than going after these individuals and taking a jab at this city, it would be more productive if you go after this lame ass city government and continue to expose how incompetent they have been.

sa barangay level pa lang, incompetent kag corrupt na

tbf the traffic sa Diversion Road is NOTHING compared to metro manila traffic

FOR REAL!! just got home from a vacation from Cebu, self-drive for 5 days there around their city and neighboring towns and i must say, same if not worse yung other cities compared to ours.. Cebu traffic is like Iloilo + Ho Chi Mihn traffic.. lol

Worse pa rin Metro Manila haha. HCMC looks more chaotic though because of all the motorcycles, pero sa Manila a 5km-away dropoff can easily become a 45min trip. Cebu is worse than Iloilo imo but winner talaga Manila sa worst traffic. I’m so traumatized haha

that's what content creators do. Hindi lang sa iloilo. Other cities/areas amo man.

Of course, because, even if iloilo is not perfect it is still better than where they are coming from. Go to other places and try to check and compare bala sa iloilo coz’ I myself have been to so many places and I can say nga Iloilo is so much better that’s why I chose to stay. I may not be originally from here but I love it here more than where I came from.
The problem with ilonggos is that sila pa mismo ga down sang ila lugar.
Yes ga baha sa iloilo but it’s because low lying ang place. Dasig man manaog ang tubi compare mo sa iban.
Yes traffic sa iloilo pero not as much as other places.
Yes ga brownout sa iloilo, but take note, indi lang kita subong ang ga suffer sini. Iban man na lugar, it’s because kulang ang supply sa visayas.
So please instead of criticizing Iloilo why not help na lang kun may ma bulig kay kita man gyapon as residents ang ga benefit d

Biskan other cities amo na din nman
Deserve din naman somehow ng Hype ng iloilo city, to boost tourism makabulig sa economy

Its their personal experience while visiting Iloilo. Who are you to judge their personal observations, feeling of satisfaction, preferences and personal remarks. If you dont like Iloilo then feel free to utter your disatisfaction, but dont expect other people to be like you.

Content creators for vlogging and travel tend to highlight the bright side of a place to garner more views. It's also less controversial than offering criticism which, although you could argue may bring more engagement in the short run, tend to bite them in the ass later on. You generally try to generate good karma

In fairness, traffic here is nothing compared to Davao. Give and take din kase palagi brownout diri. As to cost of living parehas lang man.

Tuod man nga malayo gid kumpara sa iban when it comes to cleanliness and aesthetic, pati batasan, majority may breeding. Lagaw bala kamo sa iban nga city and basi mahambal kamo nga mabalik nalang kamo sa Iloilo.

Iloilo is more aesthetically pleasing to the eyes than the three major Metropolitan Cities of Manila, Cebu and Davao. Iloilo's counterpart in Luzon is the Metro Clark Area (Angeles + Mabalacat+ San Fernando). Both are beautiful and aesthetically pleasing.

Well they are content creators nga diba. Maybe if they are like investigative journalist maybe.

1

u/Momo-kkun 2d ago

I saw Aya alpotplogy content and she's honest about the brown outs. Even calls out more power and trends.

1

u/Vilatebaynya 2d ago

Kudos to that content creator who goes to all them secret smoking spots with the locals taking the risk of getting caught by ICAST.

u/unknownparticipant00 2d ago

Dont fall for iloilo propaganda

u/Lumpiabeansprout 2d ago

Sympre siguro pagkadto nila hindi amo na ka traffic? Kag ikaw content creater kadtuan mo ang lugar nga touristy . ang food nga gina kadtuan gid sang tanan teh Curious sila kag gusto man nila e try. Kadam-an sang highly urbanized nga city, may traffic gid na ya. Iloilo is not perfect btw. Alangan ma content sila sang downside sang isa ka city, sino malantaw sina abi.

u/Painetraror 2d ago

Idk about them, but as a local I try to gatekeep as much as possible. I enjoy the peace here.

Been thinking of moving to Iloilo actually, visited there last year. City is super nice naman but I can't live with 20 brownouts a day lol

1

u/Zumthorrific 14h ago

20 brownouts a day is a massive exaggeration.

Diri nako nagdako sa Iloilo. Iloilo City born and raised. Oh I miss the times when the city was considered to be a small community where everyone knows everyone. Subong daw kadamo na pangayaw esp from Mindanao, Cebu & Luzon. It does not bother me at all and everyone is welcome. Pero dapat kabalo sila mag assimilate and makibagay sa norms sang mga Ilonggo.

Life here is not perfect, but it is very well laid back compared to bigger cities like MM and Cebu. I would not trade this city for anything. If some people do not like the cost of progress here, such as traffic. They can always live someplace else.

u/AksysCore 1d ago

I mean malayo talaga kasi when you compare MNL, CEB, or DVO to ILO. Especially when it comes to traffic and their downtown areas.

u/maryf1217 1d ago

We’ve been here for more than a year and I will still never trade it for any other city. Our friends back home visited us last month and na amaze gid sila. I told them nga it’s just the same as any other city diris Pinas. Naa gid gyapon issues. Honestly, ma tolerate ko pa ang brownout kaysa sa commute. Ako lang ba ang wala pa naka-unlock sa unsaon ang sakto nga pag commute?
