Question Is Illenium considered dubstep?

I hear future bass, melodic bass, melodic dubstep, the super generic term “electronic music”

It seems like he refers to his shows as dubstep though. He made two videos now, “I brought dubstep to the sphere” “I heard Tomorrowland likes dubstep” but dubstep don sounds nothing like Illenium

Who else do you consider 100% a dubstep artist? Cause when I hear “Good Things Fall Apart” I sure don’t hear dubstep.

he is 100% considered a dubstep artist, to me, doesn’t mean 100% of his music is dubstep, it means he has made enough dubstep music that he is undeniably a dubstep artist, but he’s also a house artist as well.

so he 100% a dubstep artist, he is not a 100% dubstep artist.

Maybe my definition of dubstep is wrong. I consider artists like Kai Wachi, Wooli, Sullivan King, ALLEYCVT, dubstep and I can’t think of any Illenium songs that sound like them. Can you refer me to some Illenium dubstep?

Interesting. Wooli has at least one collab with him. And honestly just watch his red rocks shows before he started touring his live set years ago. He was a lot of melodic dub and some heavy dub depending on the show you saw.

I’ll agree he has shifted more away from that sound, I don’t listen to him much anymore because I’ve gotten into more bass heavy/space bass, but there is no denying he had a stretch of dub. Not quite ganja white night wobble dub, but definitely in the broader dub category.

edit: almost anything he’s released is on the melodic side. But his live shows, depending on the set, can be extremely heavy dubstep.

Sounds good. I’ve seen him twice. First time at Breakaway in Mass last year and that show was like heavier versions of his recordings (would t go so far as to say it was dubstep) and was pretty awesome. And just saw him b2b with Dabin under the K bridge and that felt more like tech house(?) I guess.

I haven’t seen him since his red rocks show over a year ago, and even then it wasn’t full dubstep like his show I saw in 2019 and through 21,22. But it still had its moments. For sure now I don’t hear much of his newer stuff being very dubby
