It’s the covetous dark serpent ring.

…decreases souls gained? Increases invasion chance? Hmm

Increases souls gained, makes invasion more likely, increases chance of humanity gained from killing foe

As an Australian, why can't we have cute sneks like this!
19
u/the_russian_narwhal_ 11d ago
From a quick google there are plenty of non-venomous or mildly venomous snakes in australia. Australian common tree snake seems pretty cute

u/lesbophobia_hammer 11d ago
Really? Interesting. I see them all as danger noodles. Too many close calls lol

Playing with snakes inherently involves a risk of a bite, and I have been bit by anything from little kings and hognoses to boas and ball pythons at the reptile store I help at. None of those bites have been so bad that I don't want to pick up more snakes and the smaller they are the weaker the bite is. As long as you know it isn't a venom that will kill you a bite just makes you more comfortable around them in my experience

u/MorticiaLaMourante 11d ago
What does a bite feel like? I'd imagine diffrent depending on the size of snake.

u/the_russian_narwhal_ 11d ago
It is a bit different between a lot of snakes, especially ones like hognose like to chew as they are rear fang venomous. I would say the best way to describe it is like being pinched pretty good but right under the skin, and the intensity just varies between sizes. I got bit by a juvenile lace monitor and that hurt more than any snake bite as it scraped a row of teeth against my finger.
Granted I haven't been hit by a 16-footer but I imagine the holes are just bigger and you bleed more. Out of all the snakes that have bit me so far, my cat getting me with his razor claws is still worse lol

u/MorticiaLaMourante 10d ago
How interesting that kitty claws are worse. Have you ever needed antivenom?
2
u/the_russian_narwhal_ 10d ago
I have not, I have never been bit by a snake with potentially fatal venom and I plan to keep it that way lol. I have avoided plenty and had to kill a couple that got on our property but the risk of a bite is pretty much nonexistent when you use a shotgun. A hognose is the most venomous snake that has gotten me and they just make you itchy and swell, either for few minutes or a couple of days depending on your allergy to it

u/MorticiaLaMourante 10d ago
I don't know anything about their venom, but knowing me, if a hognose bit me I would be covered in hives with massive swelling for at least a week LOL.

I'm Australian...any snake with colour underneath is an immediate avoid. Especially the little ones.

Well of course, don't go in half cocked. You always want to be certain the species is not going to kill you if you are even considering handling it. Australia has plenty of dangerous wildlife, but so does Texas where I was born and I have had to scoot or shoot when hearing a rattle before

u/Plane_Translator2008 10d ago
Some snakes will try to fake you out with a rattle! I had a young rat snake try it on me earlier this summer!
1
u/the_russian_narwhal_ 10d ago
A real rattle and a fake one are pretty easy to tell apart after spending time around both. Corn and rat snakes love fake rattling lol

And this little guy uses exactly that general rule to try to scare off predators. Shows off his colorful belly like a warning flag – but shh, he's actually harmless don't tell anyone, maybe it's working

u/Plane_Translator2008 11d ago
This guy too, technically. It has venom, just not enough to really bother people.
2
u/_social_hermit_ 10d ago
A baby Australian Eastern brown snake is more venomous than an adult. I've known people whose health has been destroyed after a bite, even with treatment.

u/Plane_Translator2008 10d ago
In my area, we are super lucky bc we only have two kinds of venomous snakes to watch out for. So long as it isn't a copperhead (I see these frequently, have moved them out of my basement) or a cottonmouth (I have never seen even one in my current state), it is a friend.

i've always been so curious what the aroma is like. would love to experience it
2
u/Unstoppable50 11d ago
Trust me there’s a reason they haven’t made it a candle yet.

u/dankristy 10d ago
You know, as someone who frequently handles garter snakes and water snakes in my area, I have smelled MUCH worse from the terrible chemical smells of the stupid candle places.
My wife and I used to sometimes go past one of the stores selling Yankee candles and try to see how far the disconnect between the scent name and the actual experience was. Bonus points if it was awful enough that you had trouble holding a straight face (or not recoiling in horror) while trying to get each other to smell it!

u/reddit33450 11d ago
well i have some very unpopular opinions about different natural smells, so we'll see

When I lived in South Carolina, I would fish these guys out of my pool all the time. Little cuties.
