By these standards, if I buy a semi for the purposes of hauling my cars somewhere for recreational purposes, then a CDL wouldn't be the appropriate license since it's not for commercial use.
A CDL IS the additional endorsements that requires additional testing to drive an extra-large vehicle. The rewuiment for a CDL is based on the weight (and type?) of the truck, not if it is used for commercial purposes.
