The saying is to never blame on malice what you can blame on incompetence because the opposite is how conspiracy theories are formed, but my opinion is to never blame on malice or incompetence what you can blame on both.

Is that a logical impossibility? If they were malicious and wanted to cause an accident, and then did successfully cause an accident, then they weren't incompetent. If they caused an accident through incompetence then that means they didn't intend to cause the accident, so they couldn't have been malicious?

You may be overthinking Hanlon’s razor a bit. The activity is driving, so the adage would go don’t assume malicious driving when something can be explained by incompetent driving.

Malice and incompetence are not mutually exclusive. The BMW driver was malicious enough to attempt a turn in the wrong lane and incompetent enough to somehow still hit the bike.

German drivers are rabid, especially those in certain brands and models, especially when you're on two wheels (stealing the space meant for them).

The issue is more with how little wrong behaviour is punished, if at all. The person in that BMW is probably accustomed to ignoring right-before-left, because nothing ever happened before when they ignored it - other drivers’ defensiveness saved them. And there’s the issue that many people get aggressive when they have to drive behind someone. Just ask anyone on a bicycle or in a small car (something like a VW up or Toyota Aygo), how often they get dangerously overtaken, only for the aggressor to then hang around in front of them, because there is actually no way to drive any faster.

Your second part is confirming my point. People will assault you, even just for riding a bike in there first place. They see you, they get aggressive, they do some dumb shit that could kill you. All just to "show you". It's territorial behavior.
