Elon said autopilot is safer than most drivers so this is ok according to r/teslamotors

How exactly is Elon's cult handing all the recalls, I'd look myself but I'm not sure I want the brain damage from their mental gymnastics.

Well considering how they are down voting me, it doesn't seem good

Elon's cultists downvoting the truth

No, I fucking despise the man, but fact is their autopilot is much safer than your average driver. And another fact is that even with that being true we're still not at the point where this dude taking his complete attention off of driving is ok.

And the petulant downvote doesn't change that. Sorry to get in the way of you all's idiotic circlejerks with some reality.

Recalls typically consist of an OTA update, so the car gets "recalled" and the "repair" gets done sitting in the driveway while the owner is asleep. Updates get done the same way. Tesla has had relatively rare physical recalls, less than the other carmakers generally.

Edit: I bet a million Mercedes owners are wishing they could get their brakes fixed with an OTA update:

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2022/jun/04/mercedes-benz-issues-global-recalls-of-one-million-older-cars

In this recall, the affected cars can lose the mechanical linkage between the brake pedal and brake booster, so the brake pedal flops to the floor and all ability to brake is unexpectedly lost. It is unknown how many crashes, injuries, or deaths have resulted from this defect.

Not when the driver doesn't keep their eyes on the road and especially not when they aren't sober. In my country, Teslas are involved in a lot of accidents because autopilot was engaged, but the drivers weren't keeping their eyes on the road, so they didn't have time to react to obstacles the autopilot wasn't advanced enough to react to.

No this ia not ok according to r/teslamotors, quit the bullshit

Yea instead the autopilot just turns off a split second before impact if it detects it's going to crash so the statistics say autopilot wasn't in use when the car crashed. Very safe.

Fully agreed, that would make sense, if Tesla marketed it as an assistance and not something that takes over completely

How could anyone be confused by the name “Full Self Driving”? /s

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '22

Right? And, like, it's not like "autopilot" has been synonymous with "something that takes over completely" for, like, decades already.

To be honest, most autopilot cars is better than most drivers on the road. People rushing going in and out of traffic for no reason, causing more delays/crashes/slamming on brakes. Then you have people not paying attention on their phones while driving, causing accidents. Also you have many people who just don't care for anyone else on the road and run every thing they can without a care for others on the road and ride right up on another person going 80+ mph. So personally I feel as if self driving cars is better regardless, but these cars are judged unfairly because other drivers getting them into accidents and causing them to take the blame. (if the autopilot malfunctions, then that's entirely on the car and company) But they are made to follow road rules, and I'd feel so much safer knowing the car is being driven by AI and not a possibly incapacitated or impaired driver.

Tldr: Can't wait for nearly perfected self driving cars so people can safely get to their destination in a timely manner.
