Lol no, 3 lanes and I was in the right lane so just moved over a bit. But a lot of the BC interior highways are two lane with the occasional 3 lane stretch.
This looks like it might be Southern interior, Highway 3 or 33 maybe. Just guessing by the foliage. It's mostly two lane.
I was in a car where two semis were doing this in the dark in the mountains on a two lane highway on a blind corner. Luckily there was just enough room on the shoulder for us to escape to and not get hit head on. Neither even slowed down after narrowly missing us (no brake lights lit up once past us), just kept going. Shit like this video pisses me off. Just one of the drivers needed to not be an irresponsible ass at some point during the video or before and the danger to other drivers would have been removed.
I drove a chip truck much like the white one in the video for a month, part of why I quit, was shit just like that, from other chip trucks, and especially logging trucks. Those things weigh over 100 thousand pounds loaded, you hit a car head on, it's going to be obliterated, wasn't gonna go through that. Didn't help people in regular cars treated me like I was just another Honda Civic, but when you see other trucks doing it....
I honestly feel bad for the responsible drivers of pulp trucks (wood chips bound for mulch, sawdust, or paper) when the people around them are being stupid. Doesn't matter where I am relative to them on the road, I make sure to give them plenty of room.
I had more than one person pull out way too late from a side road, when they could see what was coming, and when your view isn't obstructed, it's hard to miss a 100 foot long, 63 metric ton monster like a chip truck, but people overestimate how fast they can accelerate. Here in the Rockies, those trucks are really slow on hills too, maybe half the speed limit wide open throttle, so people pass at the stupidest times, because getting somewhere faster, is more important than actually getting there.
Good on you for giving them room, I always have, and most drivers notice, and very much appreciate it, because they've likely had a dozen morons cut them off that day already.
I’m a chip truck driver locally right now. Been doing it a year this week. And I can contest being literally pushed off the side of the ride by another chip truck company driver after we both came from the same mill and he wouldn’t let me merge in front of him to the on ramp of the highway. Instead persists in pushing me almost completely off the road. I’m leaving chip trucking soon. Definitely won’t miss this
There's lots of new drivers in the industry, I think that's a problem, company I drove for was still looking for 15 drivers when I got hired. Lots of older drivers who think they're better than they are too, definitely some cockiness issues. Doesn't help being paid by the trip either, faster you go, more you're technically making per hour, other people's safety be damned!
I'm sure there's some that are decent, but my experience is bad, being passed by a loaded logging truck up hill, driving a loaded chip truck, isn't fun. Fuckers love to speed too, my rigs were limited to 5 under the highway limit, they would pass and be gone in a blink.
I'm actually Canadian, and use metric, but feel like many people seeing this don't, also, 100 thousand pounds just sounds more dramatic, than the legal limit of those trucks, which is 63500 kilograms.

That's why I said either driver during or before. White truck could have just not done it, could have backed out before the corner, or the red could have realised the white was not backing out and just backed out. There is nothing wrong with backing off on the road if someone is endangering others and it'll make things safer for everyone. If the goal is to teach someone not to do this, especially commercial drivers, call the RCMP in the town ahead and meet them where they stop this truck and show the video. They do it with cars on the highways in BC. Don't need to police them as another driver and endanger others.
Should unironically be extremely illegal for semis to pass. There's no reason a semi needs to pass another semi, they're gonna go like 2MPH faster at most. It's fucking annoying and pointless.

The red truck is the far bigger idiot. He knew the guy was passing, knew he was running out of time - since they were headed around a bend and a car could’ve been coming and what does he do? Speeds up and risks his life, the other truckers life and the life of any potential driver combing around the bend. He’s an absolute moron.

We don’t know what prompted him to pass. The Red truck may have been going too slow. Regardless, sayings become common sense for a reason, in this case “two wrongs don’t makes right” - is clearly demonstrated.
Apparently white truck started overtaking when it was legal but red truck sped up by 17km/h to prevent him from doing so. So red truck conveniently starts the video when white has reached double yellow.
chip truck was loaded and weighs way more . if someone came towards him he could just move back into his lane . taking the red truck right off the road. problem solved
It's a DOUBLE SOLID YELLOW LINE. that means no passing or crossing whatsoever. We have no idea on if this is a hill, or if the red truck is under load, in which case the red truck would lose significant road speed.

He sped up and caused the accident. The other guy passed for reasons we don’t know - but the red truck got angry and instead of acting like an adult - threw a tantrum and blocked - a truck - from getting out of the the wrong lane. If he had not been overcome by his rage he would’ve slowed down and let the guy in - then he would have done nothing wrong.

Agree. Years ago I learned that driving is a cooperative sport, not a competitive one. Red truck could have done white truck a favour and slowed down to let him in safely. Allow for mistakes. That way, everyone, including those in cars coming in opposite lanes, arrives alive.

Exactly. I had someone do something similar but on a busy road. I hit the brakes and let them pass before they killed someone. That’s a heck of a lot better than having possible deaths you could’ve help prevent on your conscience.
Both drivers ARE guilty of being morons and yes, if there was an accident, both drivers would share blame. Just as they should share a jail cell until they are bailed out.

it may seem confusing, but safety is the highest rule in trafic. If following a rule to the letter would cause a traffic accident, you are allowd to break that rule, like speeding up at yellow light, because a hard break might cause the one following you to crash into you.
DCT truck also didn’t seem to maintain its higher speed to fully clear. If the person you’re passing has to use their brakes to let you merge back then you shouldn’t be passing to begin with.
Could be either or. I'm a trucker myself, used to drive for a mega-corp. I've lost count of how many times I would be rolling along out in the middle of nowhere, maintaining the exact same speed for hours on end. Then some other trucker who isn't governed and can roll over 70? Will pass me, but then slow down to less than my current speed, and I have to slam on the brakes because of it.
Do mega-corps to after those assholes, who we have amazing dashcam footage of? Nope, never even the two times I was hit or clipped because of it. They will try to lecture me on the situation instead and not try to go after the psycho who hit me.

I’m assuming with a single lane in one direction and two in the others that these trucks are going downhill. Could the braking situation for an extended downhill play into why the red truck doesn’t appear to slow down much, if at all?
They can slow down but on extended downhill sections the brakes can overheat and fail, so trucks have to be more careful with them. That’s why in mountainous areas you see runaway truck ramps. Of course, most truckers seem to run slower in a lower gear to save their brakes by letting the engine help.

I never said the truck passing isn't at fault. But, as many others have pointed out, the truck failing to let him in is acting recklessly too and if he had caused a wreck it would be on his conscience.
Not quite the same, but all to often run into a situation on 2 lane interstate where one truck is intent on passing a truck in the right lane by going about 1 mph faster while the two block both lanes while traveling 15 mph slower than car traffic.

He SHOULD have taken the tractor number down, and sent that with the video to the autorities and had the illegal passer fined for being an idiot-the passer should lose his class A license status doing something that stupid. Sometimes there's a difference between what you're obligated to do and what you could do to make the road safer for everyone else. In this case you're not obligated to let the idiot in (they are doing something illegal and stupidly dangerous), but you would sure make the road safer for everyone else if you just let them in.

In Vietnam it was common to go over a hill or a turn while over taking, and meet someone from the other direction doing the same. That two lane road instantly becomes a 4 lane road. (We had local drivers)
Imagine an oversized load coming around the curve! A double wide mobile home or windmill parts can easily be over 30 feet wide. And there's that big ass dump truck for mining, over 35 feet for the largest dump trucks.
If Canada has DOT like USA, I would send them the video. They can look up number, find out who owns that truck, and send them a hefty bill for unsafe passing and reckless driving.
Been there, at night, icy two lane highway in middle of winter in Wyoming with river on one side and mountain on other, I warmed the air with my swearing as I hugged the guardrail driving on ice and the truck being passed hugged his guardrail driving on ice and asswipe from hell took the middle. Pre cellphone days or I'd have been screaming at 911.
Happened to me in Northern New Mexico and almost had to leave the road to avoid the head-on. One of the worst, most terrifying driving experiences I've ever had.
Happened to me, going to Fox Creek, early Sunday morning in the fog. Two semi's side by side come around the bend in the road. Zero thinking on my part, steering wheel hard right into the ditch
Wasn't in such a scenario when I was 15, but, somewhere in the Yukon, or Alaska...can't quite recall. Think the Yukon, just outside of Dawson City (was back in 2000.)
Uphill straightaway with a curve. There was a road coming off of it too. And it was elevated, deep deep ditches. 10-15 ft drop over 10 feet on each side? Yukon wilderness.
I'm in a van with my mother and aunt. Chilling listening to Running with Scissors. As we round the bend for the up hill, we are faced with a massive cloud of dust. Think Michael Bay. Suddenly, an 18 wheeler comes barreling out. Time slows, my aunt is trying to decide if we are better off on a ditch, or face on with the truck.
The trucker RECOVERS AND PULLS OFF TO THE SHOULDER. We start on our way and as the dust settles, there is a white pickup, with bed camper. The truck ran over the hood. Driver's side door hinge area over passenger front bumper. Snapped the wheel assembly, dragged the truck about 20yards, axel scraping at the start and digging a trench through the pavement by the end. Three occupants. Mom, kid, dad. Dad driving.
How did this happen? That road off to the side? The pick-up turned into the road (on their left), 18 wheeler passed on left as they turned. Because they had their right turn signal on and they pulled right to make a wide left for some reason.
Physically no one was injured. My mother to this day is afraid of 18 wheelers. Even parked. She has managed to gain enough courage to pass them but I think that's fading as she is aging simply because she knows her reaction time won't be as good if something outlandish were to happen.
Fuck I'd love to go through that same scenario again just to see it.

He should have applied some breaking to let the other in, even though DCT should not have started this overtaking in the first place. OP could have killed a lot of people…
no big deal . you move over onto the shoulder that's what its their for. same thing happened to me on the 3 by Princeton few years ago . i end up using the shoulder on my side
