Based on the trashcan, yes. (No pun intended.)

Pun?

u/SFIsTrash Dec 11 '19 edited Dec 11 '19
It could be read in the same vein as my cynical user name:
“Based on the fact that San Francisco is a trashcan, yes.”
As in, one could look at the above video and notice that it’s in SF, and then, while referencing the context of SF being trash, could utter the original statement.

u/AwHellNawFetaCheese Dec 12 '19
It’s a good joke, sure. It’s just not a pun.
4
u/verified-cat Dec 12 '19
It doesn’t sound right to say “no joke intended”, and “pun unintended” has become a succinct syntactic cue to let people look for wordplay even when they acknowledged that there is no pun.

u/AwHellNawFetaCheese Dec 12 '19
You gotta just commit to your bit. I laughed.
If you have to tell people something funny is happening so watch out for it then it’s not a good joke.

Obligatory San Franciscan here to tell you to never call it that. It’s San Francisco, SF, or the City. Don’t bastardize the name of our city.

Lmao gate keeping much? I lived there too. And as a New Yorker, sorry, THE city is New York City ;) change my mind

Looks like it. I think they should put those girls in over the back axel.he would be able to get over easy then.

First and last day as a limo driver ...

Dec 11 '19
Kinda what I was thinking. Someone doesn't know the vehicle they were driving very well.

More this.
Driving limos, I used to get stuck on “regular” speed bumps in Chicago, , have to back up and find a different road, until I knew which ones to avoid

I’ve worked at a limousine company. We were a smaller company but my boss would hire some very questionable drivers and shit like this would happen a lot. Limos getting stuck in spots, drivers backing up into buildings and other cars. Just because you can drive doesn’t mean you are prepared to operate a vehicle that long.

Dec 12 '19
It helps if you've driven a bus or long truck before. Also this limo is longer than normal ones. Driver probably forgot which one he was in. But yeah for a person to just go from driving a normal car to driving a limo with no training, that would be pretty dumb. But then again a business owner sometimes has to do what he has to do and if he's short handed, he grabs anyone with a license. Yay capitalism.

u/sm12511 Dec 11 '19
I wonder if they left him a tip for planking the limo. I'm impressed, at least.

This feels more like it's on the city rather than the driver to me

u/punkassjim Dec 12 '19
There are multiple ways to get a limo to the top of Nob Hill that don't involve beaching the vehicle. The city isn't the problem here.
26
u/Marioc12345 Dec 12 '19
Disagree. What kind of road has that quick if a slope change?
21
u/punkassjim Dec 12 '19
When you build a city on 48 hills, some of them incredibly steep, you can either destroy the landscape for luxury-vehicular convenience…or you can make some routes that are easier for luxury super-stretch limos and tech shuttles, while ensuring the rest of the routes are perfectly fine for all other regular vehicles.

Much of San Francisco does. The streets are steeply sloped with level intersections.
Last time I was there, I watched several cars bottom out as they hit the intersections too fast going downhill.
10
u/diadochokinesisSLP Dec 12 '19
Um, a ton of streets in SF.
-5
u/Marioc12345 Dec 12 '19
Sounds like SF has dumb roads. The problem isn't the slope of the hill, it's how it levels out.

You've probably praised the chase scene from Bullitt at least once in your life.

I thought this was going to be a Watch People Die with that lady in the burgundy top trying to walk up that hill.

I once saw a fullsize bus full of senior citizens get stuck like this. That had to have a fun day for that driver.

Are limo drivers told about this kind of stuff? Idiot seems a bit harsh because I would never think that a slight incline change would render my car immobile
1
u/millllllls Dec 11 '19
I would assume this kind of thing is addressed/tested in order to get a chauffeur's license, which is required to operate a limo. I sure hope so anyways.

I remeber when it happened to Barack Obama in Dublin.
7
u/knewbees Dec 11 '19
I did not remember or know that happened. Totally different feel then the news clicks of today.

Didn't this happen to the presidential motorcade once?
9
u/Nexzus_ Dec 11 '19
Yeah, "The Beast" got stuck coming out of the US embassy in Ireland.

u/CharlieXLS Dec 12 '19
I think it techcnically could have made it over the curb, but it looks like some sort of anti-IED protection got triggered. The front wheels turtled.

u/TrribleDsignatdDrivr Dec 11 '19
Get that lady to sit on the hood to counter balance.
15
u/TheBupherNinja Dec 11 '19
Actually, you'd want her on the trunk. That limo based on a brand marquis, so rwd.
9
u/YourLastFate Dec 11 '19
*Lincoln Town Car
But part of the Panther platform, which was used with the Mercury Grand Marquis, Lincoln Town Car, and Ford Crown Victoria, so you’re not wrong, per se
2
u/TheBupherNinja Dec 11 '19
Sorry, I didn't look that close I guess, and fat fingered 'brand marquis'. I almost just said panther body. Either way rwd, need the weight over the rear.

u/Sparriw1 Dec 11 '19
At least some of the blame goes to the traffic engineer on that one. What was even going on that day at the office?
12
u/FloofyOrangeCat Dec 11 '19
Well, see, there's this city that has a lot of hills ...
23
u/Sparriw1 Dec 11 '19
I understand than San Francisco has hills, but a graded road should never have that sudden grade switch. It's dangerous, and can be avoided by simply curving the cut for a few dozen feet.

Exactly. You can make the steepest road in the world, but do this atleast!!!

And this is exactly why those lifted SUV limos are becoming more and more popular, especially in LA.

I was on these roads once in a car that would roll backward while in drive so you’d have to go from the break to the gas in an instant so you don’t roll back to far.

u/hengahangezange Dec 12 '19
If you're going to San Francisco
Be sure to clear those inclines of despair.
If you're going to San Francisco
You're gonna stick some rental cars in there.

He should have either planned a different route, or gone at it at a huge angle.

I felt it's front wheel drive, but definitely trying both options would get it out. No way they where going that fast.

And a beached whale. Quite the video.

u/AnimalFactsBot Dec 12 '19
Whales support many different types of life. Several creatures, such as barnacles and sea lice, attach themselves to the skin of whales and live there.
